Wrinkles Beach

Here we are, at the beach for a couple of days before the big flight home. Pierre agreed to go, despite the extreme heat and the fact that he's simply not a beach person. I had picked the site at Hua Hin for a few reasons:
1- it can easily be reached by train under 4 hours
2- it's considered older (ie. as in an older crowd) and therefore, there are less beer-swigging yahoos, ski-doos, motorboats and by default, should be less ...

On holiday

... moving to another hotel from the very hotel they had chosen for the location or maybe another good reason. However, most of the fury was ceased with the announcement about the compensation from the Thailand government – cash worth about 400 euros per room and full board in the hotel we were transferred to.

All in all, hadn’t my family been here, I would never have come to a place like this as there are definitely more interesting places in Thailand ...

Headin' South

Yesterday we negotiated Bangkok public transportation and found our way to Hua Hin via a 3.5 hour "air conditioned" bus ride. We're trying to meet up with our friend Dawn, but so far no luck.

Last night we went to the night market and went wild; I'm going to have a hard time not bringing all of Thailand home with me in my ...

The Beauty of Hua Hin

The beauty of Hua Hin is unique to it's nature. The air is filled with
the beach town vibe while containing all the comforts of a city. This
beach town has not lost it's good old rule generosity and hospitality
due to mass influx of tourism. Many other cities have been culturally
dominated by the ways of the west. For example in Koh Samet when
entering a store I would "wai" the shop keeper and he ...

Another Long Week, but I Survived

... about 8 of us there. It was a fun night playing cards and power yahtzee. We also had some great food too! Saturday morning I was up early to catch a van with six others down to Hua Hin. It is a beach town south of Bangkok. It is typically known as a European tourist area, which there were plenty of. It is also known for kite boarding, but the wind wasn't too good this weekend. We had a great time just hanging out on the beach and ...

Another Day

... but not for what seems like awhile. Upon the completion of Songkran I have four weeks remaining, one of which includes a weekend trip to Singapore. Ever since Non-Western World Studies with Mr. Lindeman my junior year I have had a sort of fantasy idea of getting to actually visit Singapore. He spent nine years in Singapore and had more than a few stories to share, he used to say, "if you ever get a chance, you gotta see Singapore." I figured it was a nice thought, but didn't see ...

Mike and Jen's 10 Year Anni!

... while Mike had a super tastey plate of fish, chips, and salad. The food was delish! After that we put on our big tacky plastic rain ponchos, and walked back to our hotel in the wormy, fishy smelly rain - so much for a nice romantic walk in the rain, eh? haha. We've included a few photos of us at dinner. Enjoy! MJ

Week One - A Blur

... students and a field trip to a nearby palace in Phetchburi. I've also visited the night market in Hua Hin a couple times. Night market is a bit like the markets in Ghana -- lots of individual kiosks lined up on a certain street offering everything from food to silk pillow covers. The big differences -- on a paved street, at night with lights, clean. But, my bargaining skills will come in handy. I'll focus on the field trip to Phetchburi in this ...

The Cha-am seafood festival is held mostly on a large concrete promenade on the beach. During the festival it is jam-packed with food stalls and people. There is a large stage with musicians and dancers supplying the necessary decibels for hearing loss for those whose hearing is not already impaired. Being somewhat deaf makes living in Thailand a lot easier so you may as well get it done right here. At night it is crowded and it is hard to get to the food ...

From Bangkok to Hua Hin

... of coming out to Thailand on holiday). I was still in a bad mood from that when we arrived at customs, until I noticed that Kerry had sneakily decided that he was coming into Thailand on his Canadian Passport(photo of a clean-shaven Kerry) "Hey what's that about" I asked as we left passport control. He mumbled something about the Thais being a little sensitive about terrorism at the moment, (the APEC delegations arriving any minute and Thailand being hosts ...
