... out suddenly meaning the rooms heat up very quickly! Fortunately, many accommodation places also have backup generators. But these blackouts are very painful for the locals trying to run businesses – unless they also invest in generators.

Anyhow – what we have been doing?

Senggigi

We finally made a flight out of Flores. We could only fly via Bali, but we were lucky to catch an immediate flight to Lombok. (Flying was ...
Senggigi, Lombok, Indonesia lisa_nz... be captured in one picture, although I tried and tried. It was incredible. Kate said I pulled a funny face when I got to the top; somewhere between shock and excitement. It made the pain of the 9 hour climb up 3 Mount Snowden’s so worth it.

As soon as sun set, we ate. After dinner out guide told us to go and look at the volcano in the centre of the lake in the crater below. We did, and too our surprise we could see a red glowing stream of lava ...
Mount Rinjani, Indonesia kateandlindsay... it was in the books we had initially planned to spend three nights there. This quickly changed as the beach was maybe 10 feet wide and had a steep drop off and we were able to walk the entire town in under 15 minutes. Needless to say we decided to head straight to the Gili Islands the next day.

Sidebar. For those that know Chelsey as well as I do and can appreciate her "moments", I can fill you in on a couple that happened all in the one day in ...
Senggigi, Indonesia chelseyandkevin... the van. We stopped of for a couple of days in Sengiggi before we would head onto the Gili islands. On arrival at Sengiggi we bartered at the office for a return trip to the Gili’s and back to Kuta in Bali. We got a knocked down price of 170,000 Rph each and we left feeling that we had got a good deal…
It was late in the day when we arrived in Sengiggi and we still had no accommodation. We started to walk down the main high street and was approached by various ...
Senggigi, Indonesia shelleyandsimmo... been a little Euro centric. There are many things in short supply in Indonesia--breakfast meat, Jews, whiskey, and natural blondes immediately spring to mind-- but the one thing there is here in abundance is Vitamin D. I stayed at the Lina Hotel, a group of duplex beachfront cottages, while here in Sengiggi on my three day vacation. Rooms were 75,000 rupiah (US $6.25) with A/C. Lina is a very pleasant place to stay--owners are ...
Sengiggi, Indonesia wandering_man... fight for them try to understand their feeling and give them support but again not enough to cover their pain inside them. ( beside that most the donation that people made never handed it to them ) based from what i heard from people there. I'm not sure what to say, i felt hopeless. Seeing people who done nothing wrong and yet justice not beside them. Keep fight even though have to take forever and if you do believe in karma something it will happen to those who doing bad.
Surabaya, Indonesia mawar... can´t talk back. When I say we missed our flight, the flight took off half an hour early. 25 out of 50 passengers is good enough. They laughed. LAUGHED. LAUGED at me in floods of tears, pleading with them to help us. This was another example of when I reacted calmly and maturely. They didn´t care that we had not only missed that flight but 2 more flights to Oz too. I was so hungover I just wanted to curl up in a ball. On a plane of ...
Bali, Indonesia fiandgeoff... diving and snorkeling in the Gilis. I didn't dive and found the snorkeling just OK. Not a reason alone for an entire days travel in my opinion (it takes 12 hours - 2 ferries and 2 bus rides to get to the Gilis from Bali), but it was OK. Sea turtles are a big thing in the area and I was excited to see a few big 'uns.

So, my time in the Gilis was largely uneventful and it was wonderful ...
Gili Trawangan (Lombok), Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia sabarod... action like a crab, but always with the same result. Two steps up, one down. I found myself stopping every 4 or 5 steps for around 30 seconds, my legs utterly knackered and lungs working over time. I wheezed on the dust and lack of fitness, gasping for air like a 20 a day man. I knew I was holding the rest of the gang up so I told them not to wait and go on ahead and not miss sunrise on my account. Which they all did the *******s. I gave myself a minute, pulled myself together ...
Lombok, Indonesia bigsiandbertosWe used Bali as our base as we initially flew into Bali and then came back to it 3 times before leaving Indonesia, always spending a couple of days there before going on to our next destination. Bali, although full of tourists, was good fun and amongst other things we tried our hand at surfing there - eventually we were all standing on our borads ...
