Chill-But-Adrenalin Charged, Hard-to-Leave Pokhara

Although it is never fun being ill away from home, and I was definitely ill when we arrived here, I cannot imagine a better place to recuperate than the lovely laid back little town of Pokhara, Nepal. Situated on beautiful Lake Fewa, surrounded by the Annapurna Range of the Himalayas, with one Main Street lined with countless restaurants, trekking …

Rewind : Pokhara

Our bus journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara started in the early Sunday morning. The owner of our hostel brought us personally to the road where the tourist busses leaves. When you travel in Nepal there are many ways to get from A to B. There are plenty of local buses what takes hours and hours due to the stop and go policy. Plus: going 250 km does …

Trekking - POON HILL

Kathmandu, personally, we would just pass through

Important thing I forgot to tell you about Pokhara. While we were rafting we saw the most spectacular pair of Egyptian Vultures. A real treat. We also had a five foot Cobra snaking through the water next to us and when it was nearly hit by a paddle it raised its head with its hood fully displayed in anger, not such a treat but a real incentive not …

    Simply the Best

I had read the glowing reviews for this guest house before arriving, but to simply say they were accurate seems an understatement. When my husband and I arrived at The Sacred Valley Inn, we had just completed twenty hours of adventurous transport crossing from Varanasi, India over land, to Pokhara. This in itself would have been challenging, but I had become violently ill just before departing Varanasi, so the trip was both gruelling and exhausting. We could not have arrived at a better place. It is never fun being ill away from home, but Bishnu and his staff at the Sacred Valley Inn went to great lengths to provide support, including arranging a doctor appointment, and sending me to the hospital with a guide to translate and assist with all steps of the process.

We ended up staying at the Sacred Valley Inn for almost three weeks, enough time for me to gather my energy back so that we could actually take part in some of the many activities that Pokhara has to offer. Once again, Bishnu and his staff were always a wealth of knowledge and willing to arrange any trips we were interested in if requested, but we were never made to feel that they were pushing anything upon us. During our time here, we chose to book all of our excursions through the hotel, including a three day trek, paragliding, and river rafting, as well as booking our transportation to our next destination, Katmandu. Non of the prices were inflated, and the service was always prompt and reliable.

The Sacred Valley Inn offers a broad range of rooms to suit any budget, all of which are spacious and very clean, but we chose one of the two rooms on the top floor, with the accompanying rooftop terrace. We felt like we had our own modest penthouse suite, as we enjoyed excellent breakfasts every day watching the para gliders take off from Sarankot, and on clear days, the amazing peaks of the Annapurna Range.

We cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.
