The Royal Oak Ripon

Well after nine wonderful days on Mandrem beach with The Sea Paradise boys, we are fully rested. There really wasn't much to report back unless you wanted to hear about jumping on the motorbike and popping in and out of local villages and spending lazy days on the beach?!

The journey home was quite exhausting and looking back over the past 36 hours or so, I wonder whether holidays are worth it? They obviously are due to visiting lots of very different places and nmaking so many new ...

... I cannot begin to tell you how impossible I will be if they don't turn up...

We have had such a difficult time getting them this year, I'm not quite sure why we have had such problems - but we have....!

The plan this year is to fly back to Mumbai and stay for a night there before jumping on the next flight to Varanasi - I have always wanted to visit the north and this year this will happen ...

So after some very very fast driving down the M11, M6, M1 and A166 we made it down to York in about 4 hours.

Headed Noth today to visit thecity of York. It is surrounded by the old Roman city walls, with the main attraction York Minster. The Minster is the largest Gothis Cathedral in Europe and has an amazing amount of stained glass.

York is a very pretty little town, but very touristy (which meant there were a lot of people). There are a lot of things to see and do in York. Our first stop was the York Minister. This was an amazing Cathedral. There are 3 areas to visit within the Minster. There is the Undercroft, Treasury & the Crypt. This area contains the remains of the Roman fortress, Viking, Norman and medieval carvings together with treasures and ...

... 8217;ve managed to wire into a tacky boom-box we bought from Asda about 2 years ago. I even lit 3 candles to add to the ambiance but I think the bottle of dark rum and 3 litres of cider are going to add more to the atmosphere than any of them.

The I-pod has now switched to the weird Spanish songs on the Devendrha Banhart album that send you off into dream world and my mind races, my lips curl up, and I smile. There are great things to come.

It was now only a few days before Hobart saw the yearly return of a most popular and jolly fellow from afar, someone bringing gifts and very partial to fruit mince pies. And then only a couple more before Santa came. I needed to be up very early the next morning to return the car, sort through the worldly goods I had acquired since August and high-tail it to Heathrow because, unlike Santa, I didn’t have a sleigh.
