... road along highway 88 which proved to be a great road. As we rode through New York State, the temps rose as high as 37 degrees (before humidity). This kind of heat is very challenging for me, especially with a jacket and boots on (as you can see in the attached photo). George can handle any kind of heat, but it really wipes me out. At one point we were going through a small town and the cops started blocking off all the roads around us. We had to stop for about ...
... children. One young boy was quite lively. One of the young men appeared to be quite enthusiastic about his performance and led a song for one of the dances. All the dancers seemed to really enjoy performing and smiled and laughed as they danced, especially the woman in the white outfit.
we started to get hungry before the end of the dancing and agreed to go off to the food vendor as soon as the performance ended. Kara wasn't sure she ...
This Friday, August 16 we set out on our (almost) cross-country trip. We leave from our house in Chatham, NJ with major destination being Yellowstone National Park where we will camp for seven nights. We're taking four days to get there and 4 days home. Over sixteen days we will be in 15 different states. Ten of them will be firsts for me. This is a somewhat novel trip for us so I thought I'd blog using this app I found. I'm doing some pre-trip entries to make sure it ...
08:11 Yesterday was our first day on the road, we drove from Boston to Leominster and then to greenfield, where the Mohawk trail began, to Williamstown. Then, via Berlin, Hillsdale, Hudson and Cairo, we arrived in Windham... After hours of searching a place to rest, we found the Hotel Vienna, lovely place. For dinner we ate at Micheal's diner. ...
... had closed at 6 pm so were closed by the time I got to them. I did enjoy exploring a new route - I was surprised that rt 30 ran along a river - the Delaware - for a good part of the way at first. The highway passes Gilboa, Blenheim and the big dam on the Schoharie. Then I was in the familiar Schoharie valley and began to go through some of the towns I knew: Middleburgh, Scholarie, and finally Duanesburg and then back home to good old Schenectady.

Historical Traveler Reviews The Roxbury, Contemporary Catskill Lodging
This was the best stay that we have ever had in the Catskills. Usually the area hotels are dated, dusty - something that has been caught in a timewarp. Not at the Roxbury Motel!!! Greg gave us a wonderful restaurant recommendation where we had dinner on our drive up from NYC. We opened the door to our studio and we were so happy with the clean interior and contemporary, modern decorations. There were two pieces of Godiva chocolates waiting for us and a welcome note. The pillowtop mattress was so comfortable so we slept well every night. Inside the room there is a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, internet hookup and a cute table for your laptop, enough hangers in the closet, and enough towels in the bathroom! Every morning we ate pastries and drank fresh ground coffee and sat on the porch to enjoy the views, the stream in the back, plus the nearby lounge chairs and tent. In the afternoon, there were cocktails. There was a DVD player in the room and they have over 300 DVDs that you can rent for free. There was a printed list in the room. Cecilia arranged for us to have massages in our room. We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay thanks to Greg, Joseph and Cecilia! We will definitely return soon!!!
Great contemporary renovation with so much attention to detail! The design was great - clean spacious rooms with everything you need.
But the best part was that everyone at the Roxbury is so warm and friendly! We came up here with no expectations and no idea what to do, where to eat, etc. The owners of this motel have thought of everything - they have restaurant recommendations (and even menus!) for the local places, a DVD library, maps of the area, golf discounts, and directions to hiking/swimming.
I would definitely return!
We have been going to the catskills for years to vacation, but housing has been the main problem in the past: expensive, uninspiring, or downright dirty and ugly. No more. I found the Roxbury on this site and we went there based on everyone's recommendation. We were very pleased. I wish we could have stayed one more day; it's monday morning and i am still pining for the memory of my weekend there.
NYC meets The Roxbury
My boyfriend and I recently made a trip out to the Catskills and decided to stay at The Roxbury and boy were were pleased!!! The intimate atmosphere and friendly owners made our stay worthwhile. We totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for the retro-NYC apartment look.
When our family visited the Catskills and The Roxbury Motel and returned with the news of their trip, it sounded to good to be true. So my wife and I decided to see for ourselves just how wonderful the Catskills-and the Roxbury Motel-were. This delightful motel nestled in the Catskills was absoulutely 'heaven on earth.' The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated...contemporary and colorful decor with soft lines and a spectacular view of the mountains filled the room! The bed we slept in was an absolute dream providing my wife and I with restful sleep all four nights we stayed. The owners of this magnificent place are first rate! They provided us with a warm welcome. They were friendly throughout our stay and help us locate some of the Catskills spectacular sites. They are wonderful ambassadors to Roxbury, NY and the Catskills. We enjoyed visiting the Catskills and The Roxbury Motel so much we are already planning another trip there. The Roxbury Motel was like no other place we have stayed in before...picturesque, serene, relaxing truly...'heaven on earth'.
Relax at the Roxbury
I have nothing but great things to say about the Roxbury Motel. I have been a guest twice and plan on coming again and again. The rooms are extremely well apointed and very comfortable (the beds are amazing -- GREAT night's sleep!). The grounds are well tended and charming, make sure you spend some time by the stream -- a lovely place to relax. The propriators immediately make you feel welcome and continue to do so your entire stay.
No stone goes unturned at the Roxbury Motel.
Once was not enough
We had such a pleasant stay at the Roxbury Motel, we came back the next weekend for more! Nestled in the Catskills, the Roxbury Motel stands out with its contemporary yet casual charm -- just like its owners Greg and Joseph. The place has just the right mix of country comfort and modern ammenities for a perfect and memorable experience in the Catskills!
If you're anything like me (God forbid!), then you're going to love staying at The Roxbury. My girlfriend and I love to hike and bike and also love just cruising around exploring the beautiful highways, by ways, and 'out of the ways' of The Catskills. We're not averse to staying at any number of hotels, motels and B&Bs,from shabby to sparkling, but our experience staying at the Roxbury was wonderful. (We came to stay for a night and ended up staying for 5! And we've gone back since.).
Had the most wonderful time at The Roxbury Motel
My partner and I had the most wonderful time at The Roxbury Motel this past weekend. The room was delightful and beyond charming, our hosts were truly the "mostest" (gracious, completely welcoming, incredibly helpful, and truly lovely people), the location was heavenly, and the views were to die for (the fall foliage was breathtaking). I cannot recommend this motel enough...I've stayed in 5-star boutique hotels the world over and frankly this rated right up there in terms of comfort, charm and location. If you're looking for a wonderful hidden getaway, you won't be disappointed. We loved it so much, we're coming back in a few weekends from now!
My wife and I were absolutely blown away at our recent stay at The Roxbury. We have been going to this area for two or three night stays during the week (to keep the traffic and body count lower) for many years. Some friends told us they had seen The Roxbury on the web and suggested we check it out. In all the years of trying new and old places in the Catskills we have not experienced such a pleasant surprise. We expect to be disappointed - pictures better than reality. Not so in Roxbury, New York. Fabulous decorating. Perfectly clean. Really low prices for exciting rooms. Heavenly beds. Thank you Roxbury for producing what you promise. A refreshing surprise.
