Thank God for The Roxbury Motel!!!
This was the best stay that we have ever had in the Catskills. Usually the area hotels are dated, dusty - something that has been caught in a timewarp. Not at the Roxbury Motel!!! Greg gave us a wonderful restaurant recommendation where we had dinner on our drive up from NYC. We opened the door to our studio and we were so happy with the clean interior and contemporary, modern decorations. There were two pieces of Godiva chocolates waiting for us and a welcome note. The pillowtop mattress was so comfortable so we slept well every night. Inside the room there is a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, internet hookup and a cute table for your laptop, enough hangers in the closet, and enough towels in the bathroom! Every morning we ate pastries and drank fresh ground coffee and sat on the porch to enjoy the views, the stream in the back, plus the nearby lounge chairs and tent. In the afternoon, there were cocktails. There was a DVD player in the room and they have over 300 DVDs that you can rent for free. There was a printed list in the room. Cecilia arranged for us to have massages in our room. We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay thanks to Greg, Joseph and Cecilia! We will definitely return soon!!!
Great contemporary renovation with so much attention to detail! The design was great - clean spacious rooms with everything you need.
But the best part was that everyone at the Roxbury is so warm and friendly! We came up here with no expectations and no idea what to do, where to eat, etc. The owners of this motel have thought of everything - they have restaurant recommendations (and even menus!) for the local places, a DVD library, maps of the area, golf discounts, and directions to hiking/swimming.
I would definitely return!
We have been going to the catskills for years to vacation, but housing has been the main problem in the past: expensive, uninspiring, or downright dirty and ugly. No more. I found the Roxbury on this site and we went there based on everyone's recommendation. We were very pleased. I wish we could have stayed one more day; it's monday morning and i am still pining for the memory of my weekend there.
The rooms are just as they describe, spic and span! Every thing is charming. The bathrooms are bright, clean, and have windows. The bathroom is all white/green tiles, and the mirror has little iridescent blue tiles bordering it. The shower has a little curve around the tub to give it more room. There is excellent water pressure. After a long day of skiing, I came back and took a long hot shower and it was the best, and then I fell onto the firm bed and watched a little movie before going to sleep. I am very picky about cleaniness, and this place was cleaner than my house!
My boyfriend liked the ultra modern decor. It's a little bit too masculine and dark for my taste but I enjoyed the creativity and innovation that went into the design by Greg. Think IKEA! Totally coordinated, bold and risk taking.
Did I already mention that the beds were very, very comfortable. The sheets were clean and crisp. I slept super well. We had the kitchenette room. The beds we had were a little bit small for a couple so we slept separately, but it was great sleeping experience nevertheless. The room was very warm on a cold winter day. I looked forward to going back to our room each night.
Joseph and Greg are the owners of the place. They can be found at the breakfast gatherings. The first thing they say to you is, (with a sincere smile) welcome, and my name is Joseph/Greg, and I am one of the owners. I felt like they were genuinely happy to be running this lodge, and they were happy to have us stay there. Wonderful folks. They are like people you would enjoy having as neighbors.
The entire establishment has little touches that show that art and fun-ness still exist in life. I enjoy the art in the main living room, alongside the little chocolates, nuts, candies, and candles displayed. Oh, and the general manager, who is a blond lady whose name I don't know is very helpful and friendly as well. You will feel like a VIP.
The only caveat I would say is that if you are very noise sensitive about sleeping, you may want to know that the motel is a renovated roadside motel which means that the SUVs of other guests park literally right outside the door of your room, which means that you will hear them. Also, sound insulation is not as solid as those concrete-high-rise hotels. You will hear your neighbor's TV and talking as we did, but giving the discerning clientel of the place, most people quiet down after midnight or so.
Lastly, there is no soda machine so if you got up in the middle of the night very thirsty, you'd better have some drinks with you.
Roxbury is far out. But you will be happy once you arrive in this charming little town. Everything is closed at night. Excellent.
Other than that, I have no reseveration to recommend you to lodge at the Roxbury. I wish Greg and Joseph will open more establishment and set a new standard for the Catskills region. I told them about the tripadvisor because they have no idea what great things we are saying about their motel on the internet!
Go to Brios in Phoenicia for great pizzas. Check out the little Phoenicia Trout Library. Bike to Elena Zang's house gallery. Take a rock climbing lesson at the Gunks. Wach a movie at the old fashioned movie in Woodstock or Rhinebeck. Ski. Golf. Trout fish. Ride a horse. Buy an old house and renovate it!
NYC meets The Roxbury
My boyfriend and I recently made a trip out to the Catskills and decided to stay at The Roxbury and boy were were pleased!!! The intimate atmosphere and friendly owners made our stay worthwhile. We totally recommend it to anyone who is looking for the retro-NYC apartment look.
Heaven On Earth
When our family visited the Catskills and The Roxbury Motel and returned with the news of their trip, it sounded to good to be true. So my wife and I decided to see for ourselves just how wonderful the Catskills-and the Roxbury Motel-were. This delightful motel nestled in the Catskills was absoulutely 'heaven on earth.' The room we stayed in was beautifully decorated...contemporary and colorful decor with soft lines and a spectacular view of the mountains filled the room! The bed we slept in was an absolute dream providing my wife and I with restful sleep all four nights we stayed. The owners of this magnificent place are first rate! They provided us with a warm welcome. They were friendly throughout our stay and help us locate some of the Catskills spectacular sites. They are wonderful ambassadors to Roxbury, NY and the Catskills. We enjoyed visiting the Catskills and The Roxbury Motel so much we are already planning another trip there. The Roxbury Motel was like no other place we have stayed in before...picturesque, serene, relaxing truly...'heaven on earth'.
Relax at the Roxbury
I have nothing but great things to say about the Roxbury Motel. I have been a guest twice and plan on coming again and again. The rooms are extremely well apointed and very comfortable (the beds are amazing -- GREAT night's sleep!). The grounds are well tended and charming, make sure you spend some time by the stream -- a lovely place to relax. The propriators immediately make you feel welcome and continue to do so your entire stay.
No stone goes unturned at the Roxbury Motel.
Once was not enough
We had such a pleasant stay at the Roxbury Motel, we came back the next weekend for more! Nestled in the Catskills, the Roxbury Motel stands out with its contemporary yet casual charm -- just like its owners Greg and Joseph. The place has just the right mix of country comfort and modern ammenities for a perfect and memorable experience in the Catskills!
The Roxbury-Country Cosmopolitan
If you're anything like me (God forbid!), then you're going to love staying at The Roxbury. My girlfriend and I love to hike and bike and also love just cruising around exploring the beautiful highways, by ways, and 'out of the ways' of The Catskills. We're not averse to staying at any number of hotels, motels and B&Bs,from shabby to sparkling, but our experience staying at the Roxbury was wonderful. (We came to stay for a night and ended up staying for 5! And we've gone back since.).
Greg and Joseph are incredibly gracious hosts. What they've created in the Catskills is unique. The rooms at The Roxbury, and the overall ambience of the property tie together the beauty of The Catskills with the fun, comfort and quirkiness of a boutique New York Hotel, without any of the unnecessary attitude.
Though The Roxbury isn't a B&B, or a hotel, Greg and Joseph have found a way to welcome thier guests without invading their privacy. If you need them they are there for you, if not you're on your own, and speaking as a New Yorker, sometimes getting away from people is paramount.
By the way- The beds are really comfortable.
Had the most wonderful time at The Roxbury Motel
My partner and I had the most wonderful time at The Roxbury Motel this past weekend. The room was delightful and beyond charming, our hosts were truly the "mostest" (gracious, completely welcoming, incredibly helpful, and truly lovely people), the location was heavenly, and the views were to die for (the fall foliage was breathtaking). I cannot recommend this motel enough...I've stayed in 5-star boutique hotels the world over and frankly this rated right up there in terms of comfort, charm and location. If you're looking for a wonderful hidden getaway, you won't be disappointed. We loved it so much, we're coming back in a few weekends from now!
My wife and I were absolutely blown away at our recent stay at The Roxbury. We have been going to this area for two or three night stays during the week (to keep the traffic and body count lower) for many years. Some friends told us they had seen The Roxbury on the web and suggested we check it out. In all the years of trying new and old places in the Catskills we have not experienced such a pleasant surprise. We expect to be disappointed - pictures better than reality. Not so in Roxbury, New York. Fabulous decorating. Perfectly clean. Really low prices for exciting rooms. Heavenly beds. Thank you Roxbury for producing what you promise. A refreshing surprise.
