... and hedge rowing, rabbits, and other wildlife. The track bypassed a sewage works, quarry, major roadworks on the A1, before leading us into the uninteresting town Catterick Bridge. So far Wainwright appeared to be on the money! The route into the town was along a footpath of a major road. As if the rain wasn't enough, the spray we copped from the tyres of 40 mph trucks driving through the water channels on the verges ...

We had a lovely 21 km walk today across gently rolling fields into Richmond. There was little hard climbing or struggling through muddy bogs. The route took us out of the Pennines, still following the Swale river, past the tiny villages of Marrick and Marske before descending into the castle town in the early afternoon. Further east we could make out the flatlands we will be covering in the next few days and beyond them the high grounds of the North Yorkshire ...

We arrived in Reeth at 4pm, bought an ice cream from a shop on the village green then headed to our accommodation. We had dinner with 2 Aussies we keep meeting along the way. It was a great night with lots of laughter about all things silly. It has been a very pleasant ...

... at times negotiating muddy bogs and squidgy river beds trampled by hundreds of hiking boots. By the time we reached Keld late afternoon my heel was really giving me curry. For many this was the end of the day's leg. However our accommodation was at Thwaite 3 miles further on! That meant a 1.5 hour journey around the side of a hill on a rocky goat track. The weather was changing and beginning to threaten. Thunder rumbled from black clouds not far to out left. We got ...

Rain this morning. Parked the car in town before going for a short tour of Harrogate with Marion acting as tour guide and like a lot of the UK there is so much to see, you can not get to see it all. The town is full of old buildings with lots of open gardens and parks, very photogenic. The weather held dry for us but was cloudy threatening rain as we set of for Knaresbrough. ...
