And so it begins...

We are at the airport in Cleveland this morning. Looking out the window thinking it's a good day to get outta town!!
After three days of packing and unpacking, I lost the battle to take only a carry on! In fact, I have my big suitcase, and it took me until this morning to get it down to 46 lbs! What can I say, it was a good effort!!
We will be traveling for ...

A return to normalcy

... 30 PM, so our lift to the airport wasn't until 11 AM. Of course, the couple we'd befriended, Dick and Sue, were also on the same trip north to the airport, but on a different airline and plane than we were - scheduled to leave around a half hour earlier. There are basically two airlines that serve the island - LIAT and Seaborne. We took the latter, mainly as a function of scheduling, but also a slightly better reputation. LIAT's reviews seem to show ...

I liked packing until today

I think I underestimated the fact that I have to fit 3 and a half weeks of clothes in a tiny backpack. Expect to see the same 3 outfits in every picture. This trip still doesn't feel real to me. I don't think it will until we get on the plane! I am so thankful that I get to do this with Kyle and ...

Back on the Road

After Utica we were off to Middlebury, Indiana in the heart of Indiana's Amish country. We stopped mid afternoon, so had a bit of time to tour around. So off we want to Goshen - not the one in Egypt - but the one that's the home of Forest River, where our RV was built. Saw the factory and LOTS of RVs. The next morning it was off to Jean and Brad's in Streetsboro, Ohio. We've had a great visit with them, ...

... that I could see my best friend Andrew before I left for the trip. Unfortunately we only got to hang out at Panera for about 20 minutes. I was sad to say goodbye but I will see him and all my other best friends in less than 2 months!
Next I drove straight to Chagrin Falls to help at pumpkin fest. What is that you may be wondering? It is a sort of fall festival where families come for hay rides, candle dipping, games and all kinds of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Ritz-Carlton Cleveland

    They pampered me silly

I recently stayed on at the Ritz-Carlton in Cleveland to celebrate my anniversary with my fiance. We both have family here, so we wanted to visit with them as well. Our experience was FABULOUS! The staff was very pleasant. The service was excellant. Everyone knew our name & we even got a special treat in our room with a nice card wishing us a Happy Annivesary! I could not have imagined celebrating any place else!

    Memorable Experience

I have been working outlandish hours the past few months on a huge project. During this time we were not able to celebrate my wifes birthday...not good. I do not make alot of money and normally would never have stayed at the Ritz Carlton but I needed to make it up to my wife who has been so patient with me. At first I thought it was a little pricey but I found out it was worth the money. When I called the hotel to ask for help in WOWing my wife I found out they actually have a manager to help me. She was awesome helping me find flowers and a bottle of wine in my budget which was in the room upon arrival. We were late getting there of course and had missed my dinner reservations. The concierge was able to get me into Lolas at 8pm on a Saturday night. My wife and I thought for sure we would have to settle for room service. We ended up having the night of our lives together without the kids. I will be back to the Ritz the next time I need to celebrate a special occassion...or make up for working too many hours. The memories are worth it!!!!!

    Ritz Cleveland Rocks

My wife and I love the Ritz-Carlton Cleveland and especially the Century restaurant. The service and food are both exquisite.

    Century restaurant fantastic

I recently spent an evening at The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland. A great hotel that lived up to all my expectations. However there restaurant "Century" was a WOW. This is not the typical Ritz restaurant. Very sleak & modern. The service was great, just what you would expect from a Ritz, however it was the food that stole the show. I havent had food like this since i was in NY, and with out the NY prices. Why it has taken me so long to discover Century I dont know. I am already making plans to go back.

    Truly Ritz

My husband and I life in Akron, OH, and last Friday we were celebrating our friend's birthday in the Century Restaurant, downtown Cleveland. A good opportunity to finally stay at the Ritz-Carlton. We arrived in the afternoon to check in and EVERYBODY greeted us by name! I felt like we knew each other forever! The room was very nice and crisp, just like we expect it from a hotel like that. Before we left for the dinner we decided to get a massage and relax in the pool area (they have sauna AND steam room). We felt so good after that, that we didn't want to leave. But the evening in their restaurant was unforgettable! I've never had such excellent food (Sushi and "Fish-Inspiration") before and the service was prompt and very courteous. Then we moved to the Lobby Lounge for a last drink - there was live entertainment and a cosy fire-place. Again the service was very genuine and personalized. Even the night was unbelievable - I don't know what they do with their beds, but they are AMAZING! Everyone was smiling and when we checked out we were asked if we enjoyed our stay and if there was anything else they could do for us. I told the gentlemen that we had a short but awesome experience with them and that we definitely would come back. He escorted us to the front door where our car was already waiting for us with our luggage in it! The doorman (of course with white gloves and hat) gave us a fond farewell and thanked us for staying with the Ritz-Carlton. We felt very special and talked about their great service on our way home. Their credo "... to instill well-being and enliven one's senses" made us feel like home away from home and created an unforgettable memory for us. From now on we'll always be "Puttin' on the Ritz" - it's worth it! Mary & Steve

    A favorite hotel

My daughter and I stayed at the Ritz Carlton Cleveland from August 11th through August 15th. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was fabulous. Everyone went out of the way to greet you and make sure all was up to your expectations. Our room, on the 14th floor was in great condition, and cleaned thoroughly twice a day. In all ways it met or exceeded the high reputation of this highly regarded hotel chain. The concierge on the club floor was helpful to the extreme. She not only was helpful, but also, followed up to see if our plans were as presented. Some other notes, beautiful fresh flowers were in all the public areas, room service was prompt, the bed very good, and the gym, small but up to date. I don't know what else anyone could ask. The whole experience was wonderful, and I would go back in a heartbeat, if I ever again get to visit Cleveland.

    Definitely an experience

My husband booked reservations at the Ritz Carlton, Cleveland. He set aside a very special date for us, but unfortunately our 2 month old daughter ended up in the ER so we missed out half the day on such an expensive hotel.Once we arrived we had dinner at the restaurant. Boy that was some thing else! The server unrolled a linen cloth over our laps. The chef served complementary duck with lettuce and tomato & then we ordered a 3-course meal. I don t have a taste for expensive food like chilled crab, so I wasn t impressed. The New York Strip Steak was fantastic though. And I recommend the banana split. Gorgeously prepared but expensive! The hotel was decorated with rose pedals on the bed and surrounding the bathtub. Chilled champagne and chocolate truffles.(from the romance package my husband ordered). Mini bar under the TV & huge fluffy pillows. The service was out standing. People always saying  my pleasure and so forth. We also had a beautiful view of down town Cleveland. The room was smaller then I imagined. For so much money I expected it to be bigger. The next morning we had breakfast. That alone cost the price of hotel some place else.Anyway, it was a great experience, but very expensive. Simply a once in a life time for me.

    Expensive, but worth it

Our family stayed here in August and it was outstanding. The room was large, the service was spectacular, and the pool was a big hit with the kids. We paid an extra $50 for the concierge level, and it was well worth it for the family given the amount of food and drink that seems to flow without end.

    Do not stay here

We were treated like CRAP. My friend and I were sitting in the sixth floor lobby. She got her camera out to take a picture of a t-shirt we had bought. She took the picture and almost 2 seconds afterwards, an employee of the hotel walked over to us and told us that if we did not put put the camera away then we would be escourted from the hotel by their Security. He said it was because he didnt want us taking pictures of the guests. Right, until I see a t-shirt walk into the Ritz and make reservations... it is not a guest. That is not the only time we were harassed. We were sitting in the lobby, and another employee asked us if we were guests. She also asked what we were doing, and why. What we were waiting on, or who... ect. Then she proceeded to cover her rudeness with 'Would you like some water?' Um, what? What? No.. that offer would have worked if you had been nice THE first time. These employees need to go through training AGAIN.The THIRD & FOURTH times we were interrogated, we were still sitting in the lobby, and another employee comes up to us very rudely and asks 'Are you two guests here?' and before we could get the word 'yes' out of our mouth, he asked us AGAIN. 'Are you GUESTS?' We said YES! And he asked us plenty of questions. We informed him that it was very annoying to be sitting there, and having all of these people interrogate us. And he proceeded to ignore us.About 10 minutes later he came back, and informed us that we needed to move. I asked 'And why is that?' He said 'We have V.I.P. guests whole will be coming through the lobby area that do not wish to be approached!' Um.. ok? Who said I was going to approach them? All of this goes to show that the more you pay, the more you get. If you dont pay $600-$800 a night then you're not worth the dirt on the bottom of their shoes. Just as long as you stay out of the 'V.I.P.'s ' way, and stay inside your room the whole time, you will get away with no problem and no interrogation. But beware if you leave your room!

If your not a star stay behind the velvet rope-the money wasnt worth it.

The first time I stayed there I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. Everything was so nice.
