Cape Escape

June 28-29 (Days 59-60) Sandwich, MA We drove east on 195 to Cape Cod to visit our old next door neighbors from Mill Valley, Bob, Kelly, Claire and Ben Kozub and Lucy (their bulldog). Bob and Kelly are living the good life in Sandwich, Massachusetts in a beautiful home built in the 1830s with plenty of space for the family to roam. Sandwich is just over the Bourne Bridge on the bay side of Cape Cod, and is one of the oldest towns in Massachusetts. The land is a mix of farmland, salt marshes, ...

Extremely Disappointing

from A TripAdvisor Member
What a disappointment.

We've stayed at the Ritz in NYC and also the old one in Boston.

Rooms here are extremely small and the next person who holds open a door for us will be the first.

Don't bother.

Spend your weekend in Manhattan.

I can't believe this is a Ritz!

I stayed here for a business trip since my regular hotel (Fairmont) was booked. I checked in and there was no one who could find my reservation depite my having the computer print out. While the room was clean it overlooked the roof top A/C's. I had to call to have amenities brought to my room. The one restaurant was closed so room service could only offer it's "all day dining" menu. I called room service three times in the morning to order coffee, no answer! I finally made it to the restaurant (which was now open) for breakfast, only to wait 10 minutes before being approached by a bus boy and then my order came out wrong! I thought I was at a Holiday Inn.

Like the Original Ritz better

from A TripAdvisor Member
When in Boston, my husband and I usually stay at the original RC, but decided to stay at the Ritz Boston Common this past weekend. It's hard to compare the 2 as they are very different. The original RC is old world style and rich and lush. The new RC is more modern and hip. I thought the service at the new RC wasn't as good as the original. For example, we booked our trip through amex platinum, where you get an automatic upgrade if available. The reception desk attendant told us there was no upgrade available. I told her that was impossible as I had gone on line in the a.m. and there was MANY rooms available. She immediately upgraded us to a suite. That kind of thing REALLY bothers me. That's not good service- we shouldn't have to even ask for something like that. Our suite was very spacious and nice- room service messed up our order, but nothing dramatic. My biggest complaint is that you don't feel like you are a "special" guest at the new RC, where you do at the older one. Perhaps its b/c the older one has more seasoned employees, whereas the newer one has a younger staff to work with its younger clientele. My husband, BTW, loved the new RC, as the feel and decor was more his "style." BTW- we're in our mid 30s.

Wonderful Experience

from TeddyBear03
My boyfriend and I stayed on the club level this past weekend. We were treated like royalty the entire stay; it was such a treat. Everyone on staff was extremely accommodating and nice in every way. The presentations in the club lounge were beautiful (delicious!) and the staff's remembering our names was a nice touch. The bed was like sleeping on marshmallows! It was immaculately clean, with well appointed furnishings. Loved the separate marble bath/shower, and the Bose radio. The fitness center is top notch, and the restaurant, Jer Ne, is elegant. Not a single complaint, just a wonderful experience. We will definitely stay here again.

Great View with Many Problems

from A TripAdvisor Member
Me and my family of four stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Boston Common for three days/ two nights. We had orginally booked two connecting rooms. Since they had no connecting rooms available the were very nice and offered to give us an upgrade and try to find a connecting room. we agreed and spent the rest of the day out of the hotel. upon arriving at around 5:30/ 6:00 they had a BEAUTIFUL SUITE ready for us, but not the second room. We were very happy as we were assured th econnecting room would be ready after dinner. Upon arrival the first room was not made up and we were informed in the lobby that there was no connecting room. They said they had put two cots in the exusting room. we had no choice but to accept it. when we made our way up to the room, it had not yet been made up. soon after housekeeping and the manager came up and took care of it. they were very nice and apologetic. the second night we asked the concierge to make a reservation at a quaint, pretty, Northern Italian Restaurant in the North End. He suggested one and made the reservation. Upon arriving we soon realized the restaurant was none of the above. after dinner we arrived at the hotel. for the second time we found the room unmade. we called house keeping and the same procedure followed. the next morning when we checked out the staff was very nice and apologized for all the problems. they even gave us one night free. even though the experience was not up to ritzcarlton standards, the people at the hotel were very nice.

Crummy location

from A TripAdvisor Member
Very nice hotel in a really crummy area. Careful where you walk at night. For a Ritz, we were expecting that the hotel would be among nice shops, restaurants, etc. It's near Boston Common and a few Dunkin Donuts, and that's about it. Save a few bucks and stay in a better area, like Cambridge.

Great Retreat

from jm514
We spent one night in a suite at the new Ritz while in the midst of a move across town. The service was impeccable. When I expressed my dismay at the replacement of Bulgari products with the Ritz's new (cheaper) line of bathroom products the woman at the front desk insisted on running home to retrieve her own supply of Bulgari. The poor products are the only blip on the screen. The furniture was quite attractive and the bed was wonderful. The bathroom was extremely large and comfortable with a huge soaking tub and seperate cavernous shower. The Bang and Olufsen stereo in the living room was also a nice touch.

Treat yourself!!

I've stayed at the Four Seasons, Boston Harbor Hotel and the Le Meridien and none of them compare to this Ritz. I had a deluxe guestroom which was extremely comfortable. All rooms have marble bathrooms with a separte bath and shower, in addition to the most luxurious bedding I've ever slept in.

The staff here is very friendly, and do their best to make you feel at home. And the Ritz has the Sports Club/LA, a mega fitness center that no other hotel in the city can compete with.

Hands-Down Best Boston Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common is such a wonderful hotel. It has a modern look and feel, setting it worlds apart for the original Ritz across the Common. Try Jer-Ne for a great dining experience. The rooms are so very comfortable, and the staff the best I've encountered in Boston. Truly a gem!

Ritz Boston/bring your own snacks

from A TripAdvisor Member
New Ritz in Boston, was a very pleasant experience. The best part was the LA sports/spa

attached to the hotel. This was a great health club with ALL the bells and whistles.

The rooms were very comfortable and the Frette linens, luxurious, to say the least.

The mini-bar prices were embarrasing, and the room service prices were, as well. I don't understand why a classic/expensive hotel has to be obsene with those petty articles?? It is such a turn-off, it makes you want to never return because you feel like you are being blatently robbed.
