Lovely and gracious with minor glitches
A lovely, quiet room and a convenient location. I found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. They even called me by name when they saw me: a disappearing courtesy in today's world. Some glitches did occur: they could not get the length of a spa appointment correct even after 3 calls. Also, mistakes were made with wakeup calls and with turndown service (one night was skipped completely). However, they were very eager to make amends. The restaurant is terrific, and MARTA is across the street for a quick $2.00 ride to the airport.
I would stay at this Ritz again. The charm of the room, the high quality of the restaurant, and the pleasant staff made up for the small irritations.
Fine but not super
I stayed here one night on a quick business trip. The room was nice but small. The desk was very small and hard to fit both my laptop and my paper on at the same time. Internet access was $10/ day. The location is good for daytime access to businesses, but the area closes down at night so there's not much choice in dining in the immediate vicinity.
With the corporate discount my company gets it was worth it but I wouldn't pay more than the $150.
Bad deal, there a many better
Housekeeping arrived at my room to make the bed at 4:25 pm. That wouldn't happen at a Motel 6, wouldn't expect it to happen here. Pay less, get more someplace else. Somebody should be fired.
When paying for my own accomodations my only concerns are cleanliness, safety, and location. However when traveling on buisness I am often lodged in "high end" hotels, which are obviously held to a higher standard due to their higher rates. As a luxury hotel, the Ritz Carlton Atlanta was average if not dissapointing. The room that I stayed in was quaint, but very dark with few lighting options. It lacked an iron (which I consider a basic) and a coffee/ tea maker (nearly standard these days). The hotel service was good if not a bit overbearing "Mrs./Mr ... follows every word spoken", room service arrived in 30 minutes time and my special sandwich was made to order. I was very dissapointed however when I went to the third floor "buisness center" and found that internet access was 3.95/15 minutes; I cant recall ever paying for internet access in a hotel. The Ritz Carlton Atlanta was certainly a safe, clean, comfortable accomodation but as far as luxury is concerned it did not fit the bill. I would not pay their rates to stay there. A better (and cheaper) hotel is the Wyndham downtown.
I just returned from the worst hotel stay I believe I have ever had. I usually stay at the Ritz Carlton downtown Atlanta as it is convenient for business. During my past few trips each stay has been worst than the one before;however, I have not complained until now. On Saturday night, my party had reservations at the Atlanta Grill inside the hotel at 8:00 PM. By 9:40 PM we had not been seated so opted for room service instead. As I make reservations through Amex Platinum I am guaranteed a late checkout. On Sunday I had asked for a 4:30 PM checkout and because of business did not arrive back until 5:25 PM to discover my luggage, which I had not yet packed had been removed from the room and my key had been deactivated. I was mortified, however the hotel informed me they needed my room even though they were not fully booked. These are only a few of the problems I have had at the hotel recently including having my luggage lost, being given a different level of room than I booked and not being able to check in until 7:00 PM. Needless to say this hotel is nowhere in the league of the many hotels I have stayed in.
My husband and I stayed at this fantastic hotel the weekend of 10/3-10/5/03. I reserved the Special Occasion package in celebration of my husband's birthday and, needless to say, it was wonderful. Tuxedo strawberries, chilled champagne, and a birthday cake for two awaited us upon arrival to our executive suite. We ordered dinner from room service, which was delicious. We ate breakfast in room, which added to the romantic mood, and received nightly turndown service. The amenities were very plush and upscale. The staff was friendly, extremely helpful, and attentive to all of our needs. Plus, we had a great view of downtown Atlanta. My husband and I have stayed at a plethora of hotels, and this ranks among the top on our list. We will definitely stay here again.
My wife and I just spent 2hrs. haggling with reservations and the front desk. We were planning an anniversary trip and, as we had stayed here before, we decided to stay again. We stayed on the concierge level (24th floor) before and desired to do the same. Making our plans we were told a specific rate by reservations which were then changed by the front desk of the hotel to a higher rate.....almost $150.00 more per night. The only way we found out about the higher rate was by calling the front desk after speaking with reservations in an attempt to confirm our good rate through reservations....however, we were met by the front desk with the higher rate and a hostile, "You get what you pay for!".....if I could have jumped through the phone...i would have......politely spoken with the "chap" over tea. Needless to say we cancelled our reservations and will search elsewhere....The moral of all of this...verify your reservations with the front desk to make sure you're not being overcharged.
My husband and I stayed there after a holiday party on a weekend. While the furnishings were quite plush, the room was on the small side. The amenities, particularly the toiletries, e.g. shampoo, etc. were definitely of excellent quality.
Enjoyed the Ritz Carlton Atlanta
A fine hotel in the heart of downtown Atlanta. What is refreshing is the wonderful service and attention to detail without being snobbish. Friendly staff always willing to help make our stay more enjoyable. I agree with comment from Bloomfield Hills, MI regarding the Ritz in Buckhead. I too found the entire experience far to stuffy. If you enjoy great service without the pretention, you will enjoy the Ritz in dowtown Atlanta.
I am not impressed
This is a mediocre old hotel which is still living off of its once-grand past. The staff seems to mistake surliness for formal politeness; the exercise room is befitting of a Motel Six; it took two calls to the front desk to have an empty tissue container refilled; the internet connection in my room didn't work; I was charged on check-out for consumption from a minibar that I didn't once open... and the list goes one. To cap it off, even though the Ritz chain isowned by the Marriott chain, you don't even get marriott points for your stay. Overall, a disappointment, but I believe this is an anomaly within the Ritz group.
