Smaller bites of travel gave me a more relaxed demeanor and it was an eye-opening, refreshing joy to drive through the rolling hills of the South. Where there are juxtapositions of old and new literally feet apart -- modern farm equipment next to what was once a functioning, proud barn but is now a structure dilapidated, rotting wood embraced by vine and neglect. ...

This trail was much more cleared and blazed and a lot easier to follow. The trail was quite steep, but going this way it was heading down so not nearly as bad. However, it would not be fun climbing up going in the other direction. In about a mile, we got to Shuck Ridge Creek ...

Historical Traveler Reviews The Residences at Biltmore Asheville
The Perfect Place to Stay---The Beautiful, Quiet Cove
My partner and I really enjoyed staying at The Residences at Biltmore during our recent Asheville retreat in late June, 2007. While in Asheville, we wanted to stay in a place that would make us feel like we were staying at home, instead of in the confines of a hotel. Being able to cook a good home cooked meal with the right tools was just as important for us as going out to a fine restaurant. Having the ability to soak in a jacuzzi tub, was also important for me---as was having the ability to wash clothes if I needed to. We wanted to stay at a place that was nice, clean, modern and quiet----one that had a powerful air conditioning system; a place that you could wake up feeling well rested and refreshed. We found what we were looking for and more at The Residences at Biltmore and enjoyed our stay there very, very much. What we had it our apartment? A very powerful air conditioning system. Two large flat screen TVs (one in the living room and the other in the bedroom)---each with its own DVD player. A gas fireplace in the living room. A large balcony with a view of the hotel's and adjoining properties in the living room and bedroom. A full scale kitchen with granite counter tops, dishwasher, microwave, cook range, oven, side by side refrigerator/freezer with icemaker and water closet, state of the art pots, pans, dishes, flatware, and other applicanes. A stackable washer and driver---with great steam iron and ironing board. A large living room with very comfortable and nice furniture, hardwood floors and a nice sectional rug. A nice dining area. A large bathroom, with glassed-in shower and jacuzzi tub. A very nice, fully carpeted bedroom with a high king bed, designer linens and conforters, soft pillows, etc.,and lounging robes and slippers. We received housekeeping attention twice a day with evening turndown service with chocolates each night. The daily paper was waiting on the outside doorknob of our apartment each morning.
When I made our reservation over the telephone, the agent was very kind and completely informed me about the property and the fact that is was still under construction. She even called us to inquire if we need anything special the night before our departure to Asheville. My partner and I did not find anything disappointing about our stay because we knew what we were getting ourselves into before embarking on our trip to Asheville. What we did not know is that we were going to be staying in one of the nicest suite (apartment) hotels in Asheville----really, it was as if we were staying at home. The entire staff we encoutered were extremely courteous, professional and helpful during our entire stay. The suite (1 bedroom apartment) was completely clean, fresh smelling, very modern----simply beautiful. The amenities in the apartment alone overshadowed greatly the fact that there was no restaurant on the premises. Who needed one anyway---after seeing that kitchen, I was compelled to jump in our SUV and head to the nearest Ingles to buy groceries for the week.
Folks, if you want to stay in a nice place when visiting Asheville---make your reservation to stay at The Residences at Biltmore. The place is conveniently located to everything and the price is worth it.
We will be staying at The Residences at Biltmore when we visit Asheville in the future because we will be at home.
My husband and I stayed for a 4th of July break which coincided with my husbands birthday. The Concierge at the property called me before we left for the trip and knowing that it was a special occassion made recommendations and booked our restaurant reservations, had a bottle of my husbands favorite wine waiting for us in the room and suggested a beautiful waterfall hike for us to go on. We were truely spoiled!!
The rooms are gorgeous and the rates for a suite are about the same as for a regular sized hotel room elsewhere in town. I was told that the rates are lower than they will eventually be once the second building on property is completed. Although there is some construction going on we were not distrurbed by any noise.
The suites have a full kitchen, stainless steel appliances, two large flat screen TV's (one in the living room and one in the seperate bedroom), a gorgeous whirlpool tub and seperate glass enclosed shower in the bathroom. Very comfortable and spacious.
We will definately be back and would recommend this property.
A bit disappointing
My husband and I stayed here for a quick getaway. After spending the day at the Biltmore we were excited to see our accomodations. As you approach the property, it is very apparent that they are very much still under considerable construction - there is large equipment , building supplies and dirt everywhere, so the approach is not attractive. The outside of the hotel looks much more like an apartment complex. As a matter of fact, this place does not look or function anything like a hotel. There is no lobby, only a cramped office to pick up your key. There are absolutely no onsite ammenities - no resturant, no room service, no pool, spa or even grounds (to speak of). The suite itself was very nice, brand new and extremely well equiped. Granite countertops, stainless appliences, luxury linens, spa tub, etc. The flat screen TVs were very nice! There was a small balcony, but no chairs to sit on. This brings me to the biggest dissapointment - the view was ugly - the rusty puddles on the flat roof of the building under construction next door was all you could see. No mountain view, as promised on the website. Even with all the other shortcomings, we would have been satistifed with the stay (we knew ahead of time about the construction) if there had been a decent view. Even when the construction is finished this ugly view of the flat rooftops is not changing! After taxes, our one night stay cost $330.00! This seems high considering the lack of a view or any amenities for guests to enjoy. For a slightly higher price we could have stayed at the Inn on Biltmore and for much less we could have stayed in an Inn with breakfast included and a view and/or gardens to enjoy. The management should consider lowering the prices until the property is completed. I do not feel that we got a good value at all.
Overall, this place is good if you need extra space, a kitchen and don't mind not having any perks. If you want to be pampered, look elsewhere.
I stayed at The Residences at Biltmore Hotel over Memorial Day weekend. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The suite we stayed in was very well appointed, clean and had a luxurious feel. The bed was very comfortable with crisp yet soft linens and fluffy pillows. The turn down service was lovely as well. The bathroom was also stellar with a whirlpool and large glass enclosed shower.
The hotel was still technically in its "soft opening" at this time, so there were a few kinks that needed to be addressed such as the fact that the dishwasher did not run properly and that the staff could have been a little more knowledgeable as to the property and amenities. But the little extras more than made up for this and I believe that once they get up and running these issues will smooth out. Please note that there is construction going on, so the site is not pristine yet, but the stay overall was exemplary.
Better than the Ritz and twice the size! Awesome value
We stayed here for 3 nights in April. I had a hard time leaving the beautiful accomodations to take advantage of the sites from this great location. It is 1/2 mile from Biltmore Village where you will find quaint shopping and restaurants and one mile from downtown with tons of neat little restaurants where you can dine in or out. Biltmore estate extremely close as well, not sure how far 1.5 miles or so?
Fabulous accomodations for the price. We have previously visited the Grove Park Inn, which was twice the price and just a hotel room and were very disappointed. Residences at Biltmore is absolutely top notch: granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, a bathroon with frameless shower and jacuzzi tub as well as granite counter tops and great bath toiletries provided. Maid service twice per day. Robes and slippers. Kitchen is stocked with top of the line dishes, glasses and pots/pans--anything you will need. Two plasmas, one in LR, one in BR. Deck in each unit. Service was fabulous the entire time, gosh did they make you feel like you were the only client. They walk you to your room (we came after dark and they had the gas fire place on, lights turned low, bed turned down w/candy) and they explain how everything works. There is also a stackable washer and dryer and dvd player. They had grand opening rates, so don't know how long that will last, but to get a one bedroom condo with full size living room, kitchen and master bath at this rate in Ashville, is unheard of. This is the place to stay!
Side note: Don't miss the park in central downtown where you will see an undescribable social gathering (we were there on a Sat evening). Business people to homeless people playing bongo drums and dancing. Quite the site to see.
New all suite hotel
We travel to Asheville fairly often and have stayed at the Biltmore Inn, the Grove Park Inn and some nice B&B's. A friend told us about a new property that opened in April called the Residences at Biltmore.
We decided to try something new and had a wonderful trip. First of all the hotel is between Biltmore Village and downtown Asheville, which both have boutique shops and some great restaurants. So the location could not be better. It's also extremely close to the Biltmore Estate and we enjoyed viewing the spring flower festival there on this trip.
But that's not the best thing!! The suites are superb. We got a one bedroom suite and it has a large living room with a gas fireplace, a large flat screen TV (42 inches I think) with all premium channels included, a DVD player and a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen comes with stainless steel applinaces, granite counter tops and all china and glassware. We did not eat in during this trip because we were just there a couple of nights, but it's a nice feature to have that option. There is also a nice dining table and chairs for four people.
The seperate bedroom has a huge king bed with a down duvet, slippers, robes and nightly turndown service. There is even an umbrella in the closet. They seem to have thought of everything.
The bathroom however is the best. There is a large glass enclosed shower and a great wirlpool tub which was very relaxing.
The staff were superb and gave great service. We received a call from their concierge before we arrived and they had our tickets for the Biltmore Estate waiting for us when we arrived and also made a dinner reservation for us.
The property does have a second building under construction and they said that they are offering special rates due to them being new. We did not have any issues with noise from the construction and the rate was extremely good compared to the other hotels in the area. I am sure that the rates are going to go up quickly in the future.
We definately plan on going back again and would highly recommed the property.
