Indian Ruins from the 1200s

Today, we went to Mesa Verde National Park. There were alot of Pueblo Indian Cliff Dwellings. I got another Junior Ranger Badge. It was my 16th! We took a long hike up and down the mountain to get to go inside some cliff dwellings. We saw a big cloud of smoke from a fire on our way home. We drove to Aztec, New Mexico

Chaco was wonderful

Makes me want to be an archaeologist.

But our trip there included breaking the trailer General Lee style and picking up a stray puppy in the 100' weather. We spent the rest of that afternoon figuring out what to do with the poor thing. We named her ...

... again driving on a road where I barely saw anyone for over an hour. But this time, I was up in the mountains, snow and all, and I was a little worried about my car. The problem with taking non-highway roads is you have no idea what you will encounter, when the next town is, and if there is a better route. My car did just fine, but I was very atuned to ...

Day 173 Bloomfield - New Mexico

... the present day Pueblo Natives, in their traditional songs and stories, they were told to move and split into four parts and head North/South/East/West, this also matches with some earlier ruins we visited back in MMMMMM. Some of the Pueblo Natives are still in existence and have different tribes or names. One being the Hopi Indians, they continue a lot of the traditional customs and also object to photos being taken of themselves and tribal area. This whole Canyon and ...

Day 172 .1 Tucumcari - Bloomfield New Mexico

... the houses had rows of rusty pickups or cars alongside them, a similar view portrayed in movies. Very dry landscape. Eventually we arrived at our chosen destination, and with a small challenge to find the RV park we have settled in for the evening. We have within our surrounds the Chaco Canyon with the Pueblo Bonito ruins, as well as the "misnamed" Aztec ruins in the Navajo Reserve. Should be an interesting explore of ancient times and cultures.

Uh-oh, Houston, we have a problem....

... gusts. Then as I walked back to the dam, I almost couldn't stand up without hanging on! Thankfully, the bridge had high chain link fences, with small openings for photos, and for safety. That night we were rocked to sleep (or awake), in the parking lot of a small shopping center in Kayenta, AZ. The winds didn't let up at all. Then, as we got to the Four Corners Monument, the only place in the USA where four ...

... to the four corners and Utah which is where we actually have some plans. There were pieces of bagel on Evan's pillow when we got into the motel room, accompanied by the some fresh cigarette burns or mouse holes in the sheets; priceless. Im gonna snuggle close to my BBQ shirt from 3 days ago and try to remember the good old days of Southern cuisine......

... and selling their traditional hand-built pottery. We saw a lot of items that we thought were very beautiful, and ended up purchasing a large plate and small lizard seed pot. Very excited! Our first souvenir. Their prices were very reasonable. We are very excited! We hope to stop at the Acoma Pueblo when we go to Albuerquerque.

Camping at Angel's Peak

... 4th. It worked! We had brats and laughed at our ridiculous camping situation. Then we all piled into Ti's very small person tent, meant for two people. We had to sleep head to toe just to fit--and good thing we did too, because there were coyote tracks outside our tent when we woke up in the morning! Despite the terrible conditions, Angel's Peak was beautiful and I'm glad we toughed it out.

... I drove through Oakhurst at the posted speed limit I was reminded again how driving legal speed will nearly always result in a trail of cars following you. Some ride your rear bumper, others pass when it's entirely unsafe. Consequently I find myself watching my rear view mirrors, frequently pulling off the road in order to clear the traffic following me. I can understand this behavior on throgh highways, even secondary roads. After all, the roads were built to get from ...
