... only guest in my nine room hotel, it is on the ground floor, not good, it is only two streets from beach, which sounded good before I knew about the hurricane and the only other person there is the creepy hotel housekeeper who lives upstairs and I would not put it past her to be up there naked, dancing around, sacrificing some poor goat to the cheesy dip rain god and being the root cause of this bad weather. In summary MY hotel ...
Cozumel, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico john.boyd.123After four days of tourist hell, we move to Cozumel for some peace. We don't find it. The streets are just as much of a gauntlet, its just as tacky and just as expensive. Again we decide to try diving and after speaking to a few dive shops go with EcoDivers, they seem pleasant in the shop and pricewise are very favourable. Big mistake. If Mexico Blue Dream is the best dive shop we’ve used yet, Eco Divers is the worst. We turn up and they ...
Cozumel, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico twinkfran... shop owners selling their local wares. Walking the main pedestrianised road is like running a gauntlet. Everyone is 'your Amigo’ and I’m soon irritated. The beach is packed, every inch of sand is taken up with holiday makers.

There’s nothing else for it, we decide to go diving. Hopefully the sea will bring some peace. We decide to dive with a French Dive company, Mexico Blue Dreams, as ...
Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico twinkfran... next hour or so was spent just relaxing.

We then decide to walk to the "mega store" which is a huge supermarket not really for the tourist but for the locals. We grab our trolley and head up and down the aisles not being able to read any English but finding what we are after. The only time we get stuck is when we couldn’t find sugar, why it’s in the fruit and veggie section of course, why didn’t we think of that? We ...
Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico czardas... a bus on some of the most dangerous roads in the world, not just from accident statistics but from the very real threat of being hijacked by bandits. So, the fifty minute flight, packed into a ropey old ATR42 was hellishly bumpy and noisy but we landed safely (most important) and, after an indeterminate amount of waiting for our luggage, we grabbed a cab to La Remate, on the road to Tikal, arguably one of the world's most remarkable Mayan sites still standing ...
Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico sonandjim... chilled out in the morning, and Kristy headed off at 1:30 for her hair/makeup. The rest of the girls met up later, and all got ready together. Steph did my hair, it looked awesome! (my inspiration though :P) The ceremony was quick and somewhat funny at times. The officiator kept calling Gerry "Gary" and we all had to stifle back a few laughs. I have to say though, I never thought I would be the kind of person to tear up at weddings, but I ...
Playa del Carmen, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico decemberchick... After enjoying a couple of drinks and watching the turtles bob their heads in and out of the surf, we decide to head down to La Buena Vida for some dinner. There's nothing quite ...
Akumal, Q Roo, Mexico nwcreolelady... condition. There were a host of other significant ruins, but it was hard to compete with the pyramid. All around the site is very thick jungle which added another unreal element to the experience. This also meant it was incredibly humid and hot. There were also droves and droves of tourists here to see the site. But I really enjoyed it, another amazing place I have visited. Back on the bus to Playa. After the trip I got back to the hostel ...
Playa del Carmen, Mexico henrikstrodl... dives as well as a freelance diver. I asked him if it would be possible to dive with him the same day...and that was possible. It would be the same price as at a dive shop...but today it would only be him and me diving! That has quite some extra value. We went to dive at a place called Tortugas. We saw 30 turtles in total during the 43 minute dive!!!! That is about 1 turtle even 1.5 minutes!!! That was quite awesome...as well saw a nurseshark...3 stingrays...octopus...and big ...
