... when we eventually got into Heathrow, we went to one of our favourite italian restaurants only to be told that they were not serving food at 8.20 pm which seems to be early to be closing the kitchen. But luckily, there was a trusted Wetherspoons next to it where we had a excellent meal and a few drinks to get us over the journey.
Next stop Quito.
... for the afternoon. We didn't have much in the way of specific agenda (remember what I said about being touristed out?), but had a pleasant time wandering around, got stuck in a horrendous traffic jam, and had some really tasty Indian food.
Finally we headed down to London (well, to Heathrow, which is pretty far out of London). The place we stayed was pretty fleabag, but hey, at least it had walls!
Up at 4.00 this morning and then off to the airport at 5.30. Valet parked the car in Terminal 3..very easy and just walked into the terminal. Dropped the bags, through security..very quick and into the American lounge.
Just a little relax with coffee and Danish before boarding at 0830.

And so it begins! After a crazy week of goodbyes and an amazing send off at the wheat sheaf we are finally at the airport, bags packed and ready to go. Our immediate family joined us for a goodbye meal at the wheatherspoons which was lovely and set us up perfectly for the long flight ahead. Then for the dreaded goodbyes... ... at 1515. The day started off relaxed with everyone getting up about 0800, including Catlyn who stayed over. The cat was up the cattery for 1030 and we all dropped into Llantwit to say bye. Then returning home the pace got faster with all the last minute packing, loading the car and shutting down the house. Water off, doors locked, toilets bleached, dishwasher empty, bins out, windows closed, fridge emptied etc etc … You get the picture.
It was a relief to go in the end. ...
