... few cannon firing from the Union forces on the Ridge. It was only a fraction of the sound and fury, the hail of bullets and canister shot the soldiers faced but even that small amount was enough for me. The fact that any soldiers made it through at all much less breaking through the Union lines even momentarily was amazing.
Trent and I tried our best to break through but alas, the outcome of the battle was the same.

... I couldn’t get a visa in time for my flights, so I missed that visit as well.

There is quite a bit happening in Côte d’Ivoire as far as the church is concerned, some good and some not so good, that require attention and care, so I will spend a longer period there this time.

Now I have a long layover in DC, not quite long enough to make the 25 mile trip into the capital worth the trip, ...

... private hotel beaches. Though Bahrain is a Muslim country, it is much more moderate than other Middle Eastern countries. Women can, more or less, wear what they want (so no - I will not be required to wear a Burka or Abaya!) But most importantly for my adjustment to a new part of the world...YES, alcohol is allowed! :)

Bahrain is a Kingdom, run by the Al-Khalifa family. The crown prince actually studied in D.C., and ...

... in mid-afternoon which gave us time to get set up and ready for our evening guests. Susan's aunt, uncle, two cousins and their families all came for a cookout in the evening. There were 13 of us and even though a thunderstorm sent us inside for a while, we all enjoyed each other's company. I'm only sorry we didn't have time to visit longer. ...

Usually if you go on an overseas vacation, you only need concern yourselves with overseas health insurance for the trip itself. But since we will actually be resigning from our respective companies and there will be short periods before (and hopefully short after) the trip, we need to find US insurance to cover the gap.
