Last country!

... to split our journey and boarded a minibus for Swaziland, about 1/3 of the way to Durban. It was a miserable day (I think I cursed ourselves bragging about summer last time) and we had our bags getting wet in a trailer on the back - just as we were about to leave a lady near us started to shout and point to her bag. We're not exactly sure what happened but think she was accusing someone of ateling her purse ...

Pleasant Day in Durban

... in the Indian section of town. I was interested to see that the street next to the market had been renamed Denis Hurley Avenue, in honor of the anti-apartheid Catholic archbishop that I had visited back in 1992. The Catholic cathedral was right across the street from the market.

The market was pretty organized, under a roof with established stalls and a good selection of curios to buy. We got a nice outfit for Sophia for R10 ($1.25), and she ...

Our last African hostel

... we understood why so many people said that Durban was a bit dodgy & encouraged everyone to get taxis at night & not to walk. We soon said our goodbyes & made a swift exit! The next day we were to travel to Johannesburg to stay with Robbie's aunt & uncle, which we had been looking forward to now, living out a rucksack & moving from place to place is exhausting so we were looking forward to unpacking our bags & staying the one place. Love Nic & Peace Rob

Surf City

... The existing one serves current passenger needs well but there is no space for cargo. When we entered the new South Africa there was a lot of political wrangling over it, which went hand in hand with a power struggle for the city between the (largely Zulu) Inkhata Freedom Party and the African National Congress. One of them has won now and we're finally getting our airport. - 50 years late is better than never. An interesting story in the local papers showed ...

It was a truly spectacular park for sighting animals such as: elephant, burchells ...

In his rape trial, he said that he showered after having unprotected sex with the accuser whom he knew was HIV-positive because this "would minimise the risk of contracting the disease [HIV]". In his defense, he said that he normally uses condoms, but did not have one available on the night of the alleged rape. Having ...

... shaman, pottery maker, and watched a traditional dance. We arrived in the city of Durban for our last night, staying at the Happy Hippo Lodge. We went out for a group dinner at a restaurant at the marine world that was nearby. It was a really good buffet dinner, very nice. We came back to the hostel and we chatted with the guys for a while, neither of them drink, curse, smoke, gamble, nothing! We talked for ...

On the Move to Durban

... broek, pet. Douche ...

... game, so we watched it..... the Toon Army winning 2-1, with 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. We then went back to the hostel and were drinking until one of the lads working in the hostel said he was bringing people into town, so in we went with another couple and some lads. We had some laugh with the other couple, Stina and Gary. The 4 of us were left in the club (Joe Kools) at 05.30am, and no way of ...
