Kelowna Airport is a one hour flight from Calgary and the city lies on the banks of the Okanagan River. It is an idyllic holiday town with lakes, vineyards and small beaches. Many people have holiday homes here and it is an affluent city.
During our visit we stayed downtown and visited many wineries on both banks of the valley:

... it goes so fast. The only time you know there's been something interesting happening is either when the red light goes on behind the net because someone has scored, a player gets 2 minutes in the sin bin or there's a big fight. I'm hoping for all three.
What I get was absolutely beyond what I expected. There were goals, there were sin bins but there was no fight. Nearly but! However ...
On Saturday 20th September we drove from Banff to Kelowna which was on the way to Vancouver. It was a long 6.5hr drive and we left pretty early to make sure we got there at a decent time. Mimi (who we stayed with in Fort McMurray) said we were welcome to stay with her parents in Kelowna so we made arrangements to stay there the night.

I guessed riptide as no. 1 so I was in the draw :) Pre-drinks and listening to the countdown started at Jess's house when then went to another house party at Dans. Finally we made it to Raakels where we kicked on on for the rest of the countdown. EPIC night! So many lamington shots and drinks sunk!
