Today we left London at 9 am heading for Manchester, on a 5 hour bus trip. We finally arrived in Manchester at 230 pm and the race was on to get to the soccer kick off at 3 pm. After climbing eight flights of stairs to our seats we had arrived and the game had just begun. It was such an amazing experience! The atmosphere was unreal, the supporters …
Well, the past two days have been quite an adventure. We've had two full days of travel instead of one because of a mix up with our itinerary schedule. We were scheduled to arrive in Manchester late last night, but when we arrived at the ferry dock in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland at about 3:00 p.m., we found out that the ferry we were suppose to get on …

Historical Traveler Reviews Place Apartment Hotel Manchester
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Place in March 2004. We'd rung them a few days before to see if we could check in early - (check in is pretty late at 3pm) and they'd confirmed this was fine. However on arrival they were less keen and it took some cajoling to get them to relent. On the whole the staff are dim witted and relatively useless. The lobby was freezing, the coffee machine broken (but they didn't bother to put a notice on it) and there was nowhere to go to the toilet whilst waiting for our apartment.
The first time I stayed at the Place was in October 2002. I stayed for 11 nights, and was automatically upgraded from a one bedroom to a two bedroom. It was great! The staff were pleasant and friendly, and the apartment unit itself was very clean and well maintained. The only mild problem was the slight flooding that occured after every shower due to those silly doors on the shower that let all the water seep over the tub onto the floor. As a result, many of the bathroom tiles were no longer attached the floor. My second visit to the Place was in February 2004. I booked 6 nights in a one bedroom apartment. The first apartment I was given reeked of cigarette smoke. The apartment had also seen better days- scuffs on the floor and walls, all the bathroom tiles were up, and cutlery and dishes were missing. The second day there the fridge broke down. I was moved to another apartment which thankfully was much better. All in all, the Place is pretty good, but it seems to getting a bit rundown already. Time to do some maintenance work... Some of the staff are really friendly and helpful, but others can't be bothered. I doubt I will stay there again because I can no longer justify the high (and apparently continuously rising) cost of accomodation there.
Only stayed the 1 night in Manchester, but will certainly return and stay for longer next time.
The Apartment Hotel not only lived up to its website pictures but exceeded them. Great value, great location, very clean and comfortable.
Brilliant find!Don't really want to tell to many people incase I can't book in again through being fully booked.
Manchester, although very cold, was wonderful, most impressed. Look forward to returning very soon.
I wouldn't go in when my boyfriend and I arrived because it was even more stylish than pictures showed...and I was convinced that we wouldn't have anywhere to stay after a concert that night.
However, we stayed in the most gorgeous apartment, nicely set out, with lots of little things to take in on your stay: we found little details in the architecture, a dvd player, a dishwasher, a batcave car park(?!) and eventually...a bottle opener!Quality.Very romantic for a young couple like ourselves who couldnt normally afford somewhere this nice!
We stayed here for one night and were really pleased. It's easy to find and right in the centre of town. The front of house staff were all really helpful and recommended restaurants for us to try and made all the appropriate bookings.
It was really nice to have a living room so you don't have to sit in bed to watch telly and the DVD & CD players are also a good idea
Will definiltely stay here again, and recommend it to others.
Thanks to honest reviews in tripadvisor.com of another Manchester hotel I had booked I was able to cancel before I endured a similar experience. As a way of saying thankyou I feel obliged to share my experiences of The Place which, although not in the budget category, is considerably better value for money than other hotels. Its location is perfect. Easily found by anyone arriving at Piccadilly station and close to the city centre. as stated elsewhere the view from the apartment into the atrium brings a sense of calm. Facilities were second to none although I had a problem with the water pressure in the bathroom. I also had to wait around 30 minutes at check-in as my room was being prepared but apart from this I would reccommend it to anybody requiring self-catering accommodation in the centre of Manchester and look forward to staying there again.
We have just returned from a stay at the Place Apartments. We went there partly due to the 2 reviews given on the Place and wholeheartedly agree it is a wonderful place in a very central position. We could see the side entrance from the railway station from our bedroom so people arriving by train only have to cross the car park to get to it and a 10 minute walk will take you to the city centre. The layout and facilities are excellent with a kitchen equipped with everything you could possibly need. I do, however, have a few points to remark on. We had a 2 bed room apartment for four people yet there were only dining facilties for two people. I know most people will probably go out for dinner but even for breakfast 2 people had to sit with a plate on their knees. If you should have guests coming round (something I would imagine people staying slightly longer may have) you can't offer them a seat, a plate or a glass. I did not find the overall service very friendly and proficient either. Again, this is a brilliant place but it's starting to look a bit frayed at the edges (a broken lampshade, buttons of the taps missing, a few glasses missing etc) and the management should stay on top of it to keep it like the luxury place it is meant to be and not doubt can be.
We used the Place as our base for a weekend break in September to mark my mother's birthday. The location was faultless, and the front of house staff extremely helpful, but an otherwise excellent stay was spoilt by a few minor issues.
So posh without the need for so much dosh
It's a paradise in the heart of Manchester, just next door to Piccadilly station. The apartments come with all the amenities including a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, in-built oven and ceramic hob, fridge etc), TV, DVD player, mini hifi, and even a satellite decoder, not to speak of the brilliant and original design of fusing the old brickwork with white, silver and wood. However, what beats it is the ethereal internal courtyard, complete with palms and fountain - one would almost expect Manchester to be nice and warm after walking through it to get outside the hotel. Moreover, one gets housekeeping services everyday (unlike other aparthotels).
Thanks with all my heart - you made Manchester a memorable experience for myself and my husband.
Excellent facilities and good value for money
I would strongly recommend The Place Apartment Hotel, Manchester! It is in a very central location close to Piccadilly railway station. I stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment and the apartment had excellent facilities, far superior to many hotels! The apartment was spacious and very clean with a fully equipped kitchen. (dishwasher, cooker, microwave etc and crockery provided.) The lounge area included a wide screen T.V and DVD player. This is self-catering accommodation at its best but with the added bonus of hotel services eg maid service, room service etc. Check out the Place's own websites for photographs of the apartments. I was nervous in case the apartment didn't live up to the photos as is often the case but it is exactly as portrayed. I would certainly stay here again!
