          Lovely resort

We stayed at the Pearl for nine days. We were really impressed with the accommodation itself and the exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Although the beach itself (which is right next to the resort) isn't as beautiful as some others on the island, the pool area is lovely with two great bars.
The food was very good, although the menu could sometimes be repetitive with limited light options, especially at lunch. It is worth pointing out you can go and eat at other nearby resorts and the village if you want a change but we were just lazy!
It is a fair journey from the airport- 2 hours 15 mins and FJD150 in a cab, but overall I think it was well worth it and we spent a highly enjoyable week there.

Took a canoe out on the canal for a couple of hours at high tide. Paddled upstream till the canal widened out into an open lake. Circum-navigated a large island, then returned to the resort.
Went net-fishing with some Fijians and Kiwis. Caught some beautiful small fish which we released (one flounder-type).

Drove past western Suva to Colo-I-Suva Forest Park.
Not much birdwatching around mid-day. Sharing the forest mainly with Homo sapiens (locals & tourists) lots of young people making lots of noise. Dawn and dusk are apparently the best times for birdwatching. The plant-life is interesting enough if you stop and look closely. (Treeferns with …

... average person moves in their sleep? I would be off the bloody edge in no time- so after taking a look around- and not really wanting to sleep in any of them I went for the one nearest the door, which was also great- I would be the one that would be attacked first if someone came in!!! We headed down to the beach and spent the rest if the morning there until lunch was called. Now we had heard some horror stories of this island from other people that had visited that we met on ...
