Anguilla

This is a very sparse island. Don't go if you don't have a car. You will probably need one. Mostly, we just drove around and hung out at the beach. What else is the Caribbean for? Come on now! We also bought some premium rum and visited an old house that used to belong to a priest or minister or some such.

just like in France but nicer

St. Barthelemy (or St Barths), a magical little island about 2 hours by boat from St. Maarten. Small houses, narrow streets, beautiful surrounding, baguettes, crystal clear water and great food... although it is quite pricey. As it is a French island, people speak French and it has a French touch. Many people go skinny dipping and most women are topless on the beaches.

The island had a bit ...

More gallivanting!

So our trip to St.Maarten/St.Martin is quickly coming to an end. We only had a few days left and contemplated taking a ferry to either St. Barth's or Anguilla. Unfortunately, neither of those came to fruition. Our newest travel partner was still adjusting to playing in sand and the thought of lugging all the things we would need to bring for a day excursion was taking the fun out of it. We failed to ...

Le Galion Beach

... about. The Tidal Wave Beach Bar is a relaxed place to have something to eat. I had some fresh mahi mahi and salmon tartare for lunch. The food is a bit pricey, but convenient. Le Galion is great for adults too. If you would like to windsurf, do some paddle boating, or even kayak, just rent from Tropical Wave.
Bonjour or Goeiemorgen!!

... in finding parking and maneuvering tight turns. Just by driving around the island, you can tell they don’t grow much vegetation and from what I learned during our stay, they import most of their fruits and vegetables. I suppose the island makes most of its money on tourism.

Upon reaching our hotel, we were warmly greeted by Thomas. At check-in they gave me a Westin Kids Club pouch filled with a nightlight, a rubber ...

Shopping was a great success… T-Shirts, trinkets, jewelry, vanilla, etc. ; another memorable Philipsburg shopping day.
After returning home it was off to the beach to finish the day with a refreshing swim. Over the most delicious, mouth-watering BLT’s cooked by Cindy (who is dictating this sentence) we planned our next day’s itinerary.

From Solitude to Sapphire

... point turned to us and said "Oh man I never win anything". For the final, grand prize of the night this year, we were all disappointed that a free week wasn't on the table. Instead Ingrid announced that a special piece of jewelry - a 2 carat sapphire worth $500 was the prize to be had. The announcer had all hold up their tickets as each number was slowly called, until only the last digit remained and most had dropped their ...

... whatever else anybody wanted to do - just as it should be on vacation.
Everybody finished with the day with a sumptuous Caribbean buffet at Infinity. Jeff discovered plantains and loved them.
The group retired to the room for the night to blog about their day and share with their loved ones who we all wished were here. And so we sit at the end of the day looking out at the full moon over the water, and bid you good night.

St. Maarten

We were at sea for a day before we reached the island of St. Maarten. The seas were choppy and the ship did get bounced around but not that much. The weather was warm and sitting on the deck enjoying the pool was where most passengers spent the day.

We arrived at St. Maarten and we were very excited about our day excursion. We were going to participate in a just-for-fun race on a 12 meter racing regatta. We were met by one of the crew members on the dock and we followed him ...

Return visit to the 'two-nation' island

... and it is located at the Northeastern side of the island (French side by the way). As I said, I am not really a beach person and I don't go nude in public (:P), this visit would be more like a "spectator event" for me....The beach is okay but a little too crowded the water is nicely blue but still a little muddy; however, people on the beach are not all that beautiful. while there are many bars and restaurants along the ...
