So, voila! Here is my travel blog, which I hope you all enjoy with me. And yes, I do realize that voila is a French term- cut me some slack, I'm sure I will learn some Italian soon!
Now just wish me luck fitting everything I own in this suitcase which has to be under an absurdly low 50lb weight limit....
... to retrieve our bags at the apartment. We meet again at LaGuardia airport to pick up our rental. A spacious new minivan, our ground transportation to Toronto. The drive north is uneventful. The roads in reasonably good shape. We arrive late. The staff at the hotel in Syracuse is friendly and helpful. ... Franziskaner which was my personal favourite. After a very satisfying and filling meal, we headed back to the hotel to pack up and hit the sack for a quick nap before getting up to drive to JFK, NYC. The goal was to leave at midnight to beat the morning rush hour traffic in NYC; however, while trying to nap all I could think about was making that flight out of JFK. At 11:00 pm I woke Jody up telling her we needed to leave ASAP! More on this in our next blog!
... good news but bad as well (sorry to be sounding like a complete downer here but it's just what's going down)
-earliest flight we can get out to Auckland is either the Saturday, January 11 (earliest) or Sunday, January 12 (latest). All this for an extra $1195/person
-ok so now we're in LA for either three or fours nights meaning a lost fancy hotel reservation in Auckland, a very delayed pick-up of our campervan, all of our campsite reservations lost for the North Island, ...
... After several prayers and having both fingers and toes crossed, our normal 3 hour drive turned into just under 5. We encountered nutty rainfalls and fierce winds but thankfully, the thermostat hovered over the freezing mark.
