      It was a narrow gauge line with full width carriages and a ratchet gear down the center of the track to cope with the climbs and very steep descents through the mountains

      It was amazing, rivers, snow peaks, little villages, and downs and around sweeping bends etc.

      We loved every minute of it.....the scenery on the two state rail sections were also very good, was a long day but fantastic, just like we imagined Switzerland would be like.

      ... in Como and we decided to take a casual bike ride to a few of the seemingly close villages around the lake. We stopped for lunch 35km down the road and were hoping to take the ferry back to Menaggio where we were staying however there was no ferry from that port that day. We cycled another 5km down the road to the major town, Como, convinced we would either be able to get the ferry or the bus from there. ...

      ... Lake Luzern, back to the town and another large lake nearby. We walked back to the station and took a joy ride on another cog railway to the town of Goldau. It did not look pedestrian friendly by the station so we stayed on the railway back to the top where we changed trains for our final descent to Vitznau, home for the night.       ... and down many mountain passes. We finally ran into snow about halfway through the journey. I was expecting more snow. We also passed by several skihills but they all looked pretty quiet. It was a train ride that I really wanted a good camera for because the entire Swiss countryside is incredibly picturesque.
