... collecting our audio tour (thankfully we weren't required to don the Alcatraz blues!), we headed up to the main part of the cellhouse. The audio tour actually turned out to be one of the best i've had - the journey round the prison was narrated by 4 guards that worked at Alcatraz, as well as some of the prisoners that were kept on the island. The owners are lovely and have also supplied us with fresh fruit and a bottle of local wine. The apartment is not quite what we expected but is comfortable with everything we need, including a Christmas tree.
