Overnite on the train

A travel blog entry by grandmapearl

I am paying the price today of the train ride to Denver---Islept maybe a total of 3 hours. Arrived in Denver at 7AM. Barely light out. Fortunately the hotel was just across the street from Union Station. I appeared on their doorstep luggage in tow, and they took pity on me and gave me a room. This is the oldest hotels in denver. just great, it is …

Jetlag induced early morning (5am) for Henry and a sensible sleep-in (7am) for fellow travellers.

Brekky at the hotel followed by some USA SIM research at AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon saw T-Mobile the winner for Henry with a one month unlimited text, talk, data and calls to Oz landlines. Deb got a $20 AT&T phone (her Oz phone …

    Great Service

    from TravelerAtlanta

The Oxford Hotel was very nice. We had exceptional service the entire visit. The rooms are updated but with some of the original furnishings. When needing assistance with the area, ask for David. He is a six-generation Coloradian and knows everything about the hotel, restaurants, history or the area and more. Excellent stay.

Oxford a True Classic. Beautiful Rooms, Personal Service

    from anonymous

My wife and I stayed here in August 2004 for our 2nd wedding anniversary and could not have chosen a better romantic spot. Beautiful, restored classic, our room, a "Deluxe Victorian" was well worth the premium room charge and was very large with a fireplace, luxurious king bed (reminded me of the Westin Heavenly Bed), Sony WEGA flat panel TV, beautiful antique furniture and fixtures, etc. I booked on Expedia for $159, the lowest rate I found.

Outstanding classic service at the door, desk and throughout. You leave your key and the front desk when you leave and pick it up on return, a classic touch. Free internet access computers and printer in the second floor stairwell made checking email handy. They have a courtesy car available and will take you in town if you need it.

Did not use the spa next door but other guests reported it was top notch.

Bartender in the ultra-classic 'Cruise Room' martini bar was a true gem and an artist behind the bar. McKormick's seafood restaurant was wonderful, as was Il Fornaio next door. One block to the 16th Street Mall (free shuttle bus) and short distance to Union Station, Coors Field, etc.

Should I need to stay in downtown Denver again, I would certainly stay at the Oxford.

    Great service and location

    from 3wheeler

We chose this hotel because of the reviews and location and we were not disappointed. The room was comfortable and really spacious, (we booked an interior room with 2 beds), and furnished with fine antiques. The bathroom was small but very quaint and clean. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. We also took advantage of the free wireless internet that is available. Complimentary Sherry is available in the lobby. The Oxford's valet parking is your only option and it costs $21. A hotel car will drive you anywhere downtown, but shopping/restaurants/bars are within walking distance. We walked to the Wynkoop Brewery (2 blocks) and enjoyed the best meal of our 6 day trip.

    Wonderful and personal service

    from Richard2263

Stayed one night at the Oxford before leaving the USA.

Old fashioned atmosphere, excellent rooms and beds. McCormicks fish restaurant next door with very high quality cuisine.

Good location downtown in quiet area and close the Union Station. About 35 mins from airport by cab.

Courtesy car to ferry you around town if desired.

Staff charming and efficient, especially porters who simply could not do enough.

Coffee makers on every floor and free sherry decanter provided during afternoon in reception area. LIttle touches that make a good hotel excellent.

    Go Back In Time

    from BKCastleRock

My husband and I stayed at the Oxford on Easter Weekend and was very impressed with the accomodations and atmosphere. If you like modern, this is not the hotel for you! But, if you like to feel like you've gone way back in time, then you'll love the Oxford. Our accomodations were very nice and the bed was extremely comfortable. The retro bar and McCormick's restaurant (on site) were excellent also. All the service folks we encountered were very courteous and friendly. One GREAT benefit of staying at the Oxford is the complimentary use of a towncar so you don't have to drive to get around. No hassle! There are no in-room coffee makers (too modern!) but there's coffee service on every floor. I would definately stay at the Oxford again. We had a great time!

    Truly Spoiled!

    from anonymous

We had the best time ever. I can't decide what I liked most the beautiful hotel, tasty diner downstairs, or superb service.

    Wonderful, don't miss the spa.....

    from kierajacksmom

We stayed at The Oxford over New Year's this year and had a fabulous time. Not only is it supremely located near fabulous restaurants and other amenities it has a wonderful spa with fantastic rates on services. It also houses one of the most fabulous bars, The Cruise Room. The Art Deco ambience is not to miss, and you can even order in from the fabulous McCormick's Fish House next door. We're coming back next year!

    Best in Denver

    from anonymous

Wonderful Service, Beautiful Victorian Room. For the difference in price, beats the Brown Palace every time. Its location is much better, for the hotel is surrounded by great restaurants. Never stay anywhere else.

Quiet, quaint, and in the middle of it all.

    from anonymous

One of the most wonderful accommodations you'll ever enjoy. Plush, historic, yet everything is modern and extremely upscale. The beds are marvelous. Very warm, comfortable surroundings and while the hotel is quiet and quaint, the city outside the room is non-stop. In the heart of downtown Denver (LoDo) and minutes away from Larimar and the mall.

You won't want to miss the Cruise Room and their not-so-infamous Lemon Drop Martini. The Oxford will truly spoil you forever.

    Enjoyable visit!

    from anonymous

We love the Oxford.....and the decor is lovely with the antiques! It's a special place to go and be well taken care of! We'll certainly go back! Thanks Stewart for all your extra help and info.....
