Last Entry from Home!!!

We got up at 6 am and had our last breakfast in Venice. This has been a wonderful trip and I am sad to see it end.

We headed for the airport at 10:30 am. No dragging our suitcase across the cobblestones this time. We had a taxi pickup our luggage at the hotel. He had a cart and moved the bags. Drive to the airport was about 20 minutes. Once ...

We were going to Aurora, Ontario, to visit my Grandma at a home for the elderly. The plan was that other relatives from the area would meet us there as well since we were so limited for time.

I wondered if my ...

... us company as well so we stayed out for a couple of hours. We are used to kayaks and they feel so much more stable than canoes. Our inflatable kayak is no match for Lake Superior and the myriad lakes, rivers and waterfalls that cascade and flow into it. Fortunately they rent canoes in all the parks. We are in the land of outdoorsmen and we really stand out like naked people without fishing rods in hand.

There are many of these ...

First Impressions on The Canadian

... plenty of time - but we had to scramble into the long line without stopping for a bit to eat and we barely got a seat together. I'm surprised there is no reserved seating for such a long trip. The breakfast car did not open this morning, I guess everyone else had time to eat except us! We'll just have to work on our bag of snacks until lunch time.

it doesn't end here...

After a long 7 and a half hour flight Leaving Canada landing in Gatwick London airport I found myself alone and waiting. Excited as I was and not knowing a thing about England my first experience of British culture was not that welcoming at all to say the least. Tired, Alone, and wondering when that boy would show. Curious of this new life I had coming for me, I stepped off the coach bus and had a drunken man yell in my face...................

... and a lot more quintessential canadiana. A highlight was visiting Ken's work; he was in the trucking business and managed to persuade a driver to exhibit the interior of one of the road-train-equivalent trucks, the living quarters as such, something which neither Dave nor myself had seen before. Our last night in Orillia was spent quietly at home with all of the Fountains plus Chantelle, who very thoughtfully produced a tuque (beanie) for me, which was very ...

... and perhaps judging by our homeless appearance (or stench), they quickly told us the key pad code to the shower house. Great, we snuck in, had a lukewarm shower and decided to locate a discreet place for sleeping in the car rather than incur the pricey campground fees. So we found a nice secluded spot by the pier where we could watch the night stars with the car doors open. The rest of the drive home was beautiful. We had been half-expecting Ontario to be dreary compared to many of ...
