... right next to the grammar school, and were offering their rugby field as an exchange. You guessed it, there wasn't much choice in the matter - the exchange took place and the cricket club moved - that happened within Dennis' memory, so if and when the Waltons from the 1800s played cricket, it would have been right next to the school. I've emailed the Knaresborough Cricket Club to see if they have any archives - you never know....

... graveyard and was getting soaked once again when I met Brian Forshaw and his wife. Brian is a retired teacher and a hobby historian - he saved me so much hassle by letting me know the grave inscriptions are all listed in the library. Lovely sunny morning just right for a drive to Bristol. Just as well it was so nice because Melanie realised half way along that she'd forgotten her phone so we had to turn around & retrace our steps.
