... more ideas to make the Floride trip easier; don't forget the pot to make coffee & tea and find more comfortable mattresses for under our sleeping bags. Shona slept like a dog.
Shona still thinks she is going to the vet (alittle anxious) everytime she gets into the car. But she settled down and did great at the camp site.
Can't wait to start the trip. Florida or bust!
Finally left the noisy dorm room yay. Saw some massive waves along the coast towards Monterey. Stopped off in Santa Cruz, not much going on in Fall! Apparently it's wooden rollercoaster is a national monument! Got to Monterey and found a visitor centre for a map. Hotel man upgraded us to a deluxe king, had a microwave and a fridge! Watched lots of TV ...
Monterey, California, United States rich_charlotte... there we'd find out. I'm not entirely sure it was a town so much as a point or small region. We found the Big Sur State Park and decided that it was the best option and turned on in. Although the woman at the front stand was a bit concerned for us, we knew Lola would do fine...she's seen it all. We decided to do a hike up to see some Redwoods and Pfieffer? Waterfall. Christa learned at the Grand Canyon and on that hike I learned...flip ...
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, California, United States ktowers86... on the high street of fresh homemade half sandwiches and soup for a very reasonable price of $5 each. I saw a hummingbird in some foliage but it was gone before I could take a picture, doh! We drove down the road to the missionary church which was on the outskirts of the town which was very pretty but we didn't want to pay to go in, so we just ended up taking pictures of the outside and nice garden (which is only what we wanted to see anyway!). We ...
Monterey, California, United States pixelchick... We were joined by Ann, also of San Jose Friends. Ivy had built her home in the 80s as a small energy-efficient model with an incredible view of the Monterey Bay. The next morning we enjoyed breakfasting with the five sisters who live at the Presentation Center, and then Pat Marie gave us a more thorough tour. When we parted we walked the nature trail, thoroughly in awe of the beautiful costal redwoods and ruggedly beautiful terrain. Ivy then gave us a ...
Monterey, California, United States peaceforearth... the front nine. On the back nine, I decided to carry. Carts are only allowed on paths and the walks to and from the cart, to collect my clubs, were taking years off my cleats! Also, I wasn't that keen with my playing partners, so I decided to avoid them as much as I could; I think they got the message. As for my golf and the course, I wished I'd played yesterday when the sun was out and my golf was much better. The wind was benign, so I had no excuse for shooting an 85 ...
Pebble Beach, California, United States barratt... of San Jose at an old family friend's house from Allegany, NY where I grew up. I hadn't seen Judy Smith in at least 25 years and it was a great reunion. Our moms were best friends and the Smiths were our favorite neighbors for years. We spent an hour catching up on our families and the boys entertaining her. We didn't get to The Tech until 3:00pm and started our adventure with an IMAX movie, Hurricane in the Bayou, a great ...
San Jose, California, United States thesteelesHeading south I loved the town of Santa Cruz which was a real surf town & very cool. Nath & I walked for miles along the foreshore which was covered in pretty dune flowers & had lovely ...
Carmel, California, United States hilaryramsey... The scenery is beautiful, Vanagons and VW beetles are everywhere, convertible tops down, motorcycles and joggers dot the landscape. We give up waving at the VW Vans as it's useless. Couple of tours of the town and out on the Santa Cruz wharf we drive. Park and walk to take in the sea breeze. Hunter is happy to be out and about but we soon find out NO DOGS ALLOWED ON THE WARF and shuffle him back into the Westy. Lunch time now so we find a restaurant on ...
Santa Cruz, California, United States frankandrita... my first big meal in some time, then on to pick up the part. We stopped at a gas station where he paid for my gas and then we returned to the VW. He didn't have a lot of money but he wanted to give me some for my trouble and he liked the painting I had just did by Carmel Highlands and he bought that. Now with this influx of cash I decided to try to make it all the way to San Francisco. But before I did that ...
