It is hard to find the words sufficient to praise this hotel and the wonderful staff. Everything is maintained in great order, the staff are most welcoming and eager to make your stay comfortable, and the food is simply out of this world! Our group has had two dinners here, in addition to breakfasts, and every meal has been beautifully prepared and presented. It is so well located. I would not consider staying anywhere else!

Moving around the streets and scenes of Kolkata today, I am struck with gratitude for being able to witness the spectacle of life in India in its incredible diversity, and humbled to know that any one of these lives could have been mine if not for the happenstance of the place of my birth. We see every strata of the social spectrum, we see young, …

A group of jet-lagged and eager Toto Tourists gather this morning for our first activity -- a city tour of Kolkata. Since traffic is light on Sunday, we journey across the river and outside of the city to the Ramakrishna Mission set up by Swami Vivekananda in the late 1890's. The teachings of Ramakrishna Paramhansa were brought by Vivekananda to …

I manage to do something rare -- take some personal time before the tour begins to explore an area which is not on our upcoming itinerary. I arrive on November 13, and spend several days getting used to the new time zone, and relaxing at the Sundarbans Tiger Reserve and a resort on the Ganges River. Here are a few photos of my experiences -- so many more experiences to come!

Took advantage of not having to wake up early and slept in. Went down to breakfast and have to say that compare to everywhere else we have stayed the choice is slightly limited . We were shown into a smallish room that we shared with an Indian family. I find it fascinating when you listen to their conversations how it becomes a mixture of English …

We begin our official tour of Kokata in the morning with our local guide leading the way. Later we learn he's from Chandernagore- the former French colonial town we'd visited on the river. We start with St Paul's Cathedral and then go on to the Victoria Memorial. We have a very nice lunch at a local restaurant, which …
