... that there are goat and cow herders roaming around with my unshrouded windows, making sure I jump from shower to clothing and back in one fail swoop to ensure no "loss" of decency. And then. I recalibrate. and it is shared space. As most India is. Shared space with a gloss over of overlap. Again, I have to understand my American space and understanding of Independence is different. ... to talk to - partly due to language reasons. Even though he was born in Bombay of Tamil parents, he spent a lot of time in Germany and he speaks a combination of Tamil, English and German. Often he can't find the right word in Tamil so he uses a German one - even when speaking with locals. Instead of thinking of him as being educated, they just think he's a crazy old man, uttering gibberish.

... concrete waiting for yet another bus. A lady policewoman who had noticed our dilemna said that when the next Kotagiri bus came she would personally reserve some seats on it for us.
