High season has REALLY set in, with several consequences:
First of all the prices of most things have gone up. Hotels (which isn't a factor for me as I have locked in the low season rate); restaurants; and even supermarkets. For example, the prices of bread and bottled water have gone up over ten percent in the past few days.

A fair number of these people seem to make a living from begging. When I'm walking, I try to guess if the people approaching me will be beggars or not. Some of them seem like they are not even really regular beggars but rather are opportunistic beggars. By that I mean they look like they wouldn't beg from their fellow Indians, but they must have heard that whities hand out money ...
