We visited the Portland Observatory, learning that it has nothing to do with stars and everything to do with early maritime commerce. Built on Munjoy Hill in 1807 by an early entrepreneur, the Observatory was used to track the port's shipping activity. The tour offered historic background and a 360-degree view of Portland and Casco Bay.
And then, it was our last full day in Portland. Sigh. . .

... Maine toll booth another $10.50 charge. Arrived in Kennebunk, Maine at 3:30 this afternoon. What a beautiful park it is. Alot of bikers come here! Alot of space and nice trees. We are not close to the water but there are beaches close by. A little too chilly for the beach anyway. After a little feed of Maine Lobster spent the rest of the evening planning for the next day ...
... but not quiet. And we left wanting more and so we had a second lunch lobster roll at a cozy lobster shack on a pier near Ogunquit. And it was really good, too. We wanted more, but they would have to wait for another day.
After second lunch, we visited the Ogunquit Museum of Art where we enjoyed a private tour and saw works by American artists including Winslow Homer and (new to me) DeWitt ...
We wanted to eat lobster and oysters on the half shell, track elusive moose, and watch the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean when we visited Maine for three weeks. We were more than satisfied by accomplishing three of those goals and happy to leave the moose for another visit to this most northeasterly state in the U.S.
For several years, our friends Harold and Dana had suggested that Ken, Marette, Jack and I visit ...
