What a lovely weekend
I have just gotten back from a weekend in cork for a suprise birthday treat from my husband, while we did have a llittle difficulty finding the hotel, it was worth the effort. The hotel is just lovely, comfortable rooms, good food although it was too crowded in the restaurant Sunday afternoon so we went to the city centre to Greenes on MacCurtain street, (also excellent)
It was the hotel staff that really made it special they really made us feel at home and everybody seemed interested in us, and really looked after us.
Excellent weekend, lovely people we will be back!
My partner and I recently enjoyed two great days in Cork at the Jazz Festival and heard about The Montenotte Hotel from friends who live in the area. Apparantly it used to be called the Country Club and closed down last year. The new hotel is excellent and only reopened a week or two before we arrived. There is some work still going on but itīs mostly finished and idnīt interfere with our stay.
The atmosphere is great, very relaxed with very friendly staff. The overall look is modern/contemporary and the views from the bar and restaurant over the city are great. There was a jazz band in the main bar each evening which really added to the atmosphere. Itīs a nice stroll into the city centre (downhill) and takes about 15 minutes. We opted for a taxi back to the hotel (uphill!) after our wanderings around town, literally just a few minutes and cost about 5 euros. There is a great leisure centre at the hotel and we sampled the sauna and jacuzzi after breakfast on Sunday to help revive us after the excesses of the night before.
It was a very good stay and good value for money. Still some finishing touches are needed, but overall we were very happy and will certainly be back.
A city gem
An absolute gem within walking distance of the City centre. From check in to check out we could not fault a thing even though the Hotel is in the finishing stages of a complete refurbishment. The friendly staff and luxury of the rooms did indeed make it a most memorable stay for all the right reasons. My partner and I spent 3 nights B+B with one evening meal included on a special offer through supervalugetawaybreaks and it was most enjoyable. The leisure centre has every convenience anyone would wish for and it was really lovely to spend a few days relaxing in the hotel. I have never encountered such friendly and efficient staff and I applaude the manner in which they greet and treat guests. We look forward to returning again soon. We also visited the restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous meal and although the staff in this area were non nationals their level of english was indeed excellent and they were extremely efficient and friendly. Many thanks to all the staff in the hotel as they helped to make our stay most enjoyable and memorable.
Nice room and view, food a disappointment
My oartner and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend on a package deal for 2 nights and one dinner. The room was really nice, with a lovely bed and the views from the bar and bistro is stunning. It's also very close to the city centre.
However, the food was a serious disappointment. My starter was shrimp cocktail: the shrimp itself was ok but it was ovedressed and the salad that came with it was tough and plain. The main course selection was very limited featuring, among other things, a suspicious "tagliatelle carbonara" featuring fried chicken. I opted for the t-bone steak which was, in itself, very good but accompanied by undercooked vegetables drowned in butter. The chocolate dessert was unedible, stale and frozen, with no flavour.
I would recommend this hotel for the location, but definitely not for the food.
We stayed last weekend for the Jazz and it was fantastic!!
From the bedrooms to the service we had a fab time The only thing that we were unhappy about is that we could not get a table to dine the restaurant at an early hour as they were booked out but they did everything they could to assist us and we eventually got to eat at a later time ! Anyway we will deinfetely go back and be booking well in advance this time round.
Great Food! Dont miss it!
Me and few girlfriends decided to check out the new Montenotte Hotel, and wow was it great!
We had lunch in the new Bistro and you wouldnt recognise it from the Country club, the food was fantastic -5 star would reccomend it to anyone we have the carvery which was first class and later has some bits off the Tapas menu, i dont think there is anywhere like it in cork at the moment and was long overdue. The staff are great super friendly from the minute you walk in i agree with the the other posts keep up the good work!!!
Best i have seen yet
I stayed in room 302, was brand new, warm and the staff were friendly and very well trained. Lots of foreign staff but level of english was excellent.
Find other review very harsh and over the top.Sounds like a hand full mate. I'm not getting married anytime soon but if we were getting married in Cork i would consider it.
I have family going to Cork in January and have booked them in there.
The happiest day of my life
I got married in the Montenotte Hotel 4 weeks ago and I have to say from our initial enquiry to the big day its self everything was handled in a professional and friendly manner.
Both food and service were of the highest degree and id like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all involved in making our special day so memorable.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel as an excellent wedding venue
Unprofessional Event Management Service
My Fiancée and I looked at this Hotel recently to host our Wedding sometime in 2007.
We were shown around by their excellent Duty Manager (I think), Brendan. He was very professional, friendly and accommodating. He answered almost every question he could. He also provided us with a very informational tour of the Hotel and venue, how the Wedding Reception it self would run and where it would all happen. We immediately liked the surroundings of the bar and the Function room, the newly re-vamped rooms etc (While there are some renovations going on at present I'm sure the Hotel should look well within a few weeks.)
As we have 2 other Hotel's provisionally booked we decided to look at their Wedding package to check the costs.. Overall they were approximately €2000 more expensive when compared to other Hotels such as The Ramada, Oriel House, The Carlton, The Trident etc.. For example a lot of weddings now use the Wedding Cake as the desert and for this Hotels will charge "Plating' i.e. cost to cut and place it on plate with some cream etc Most Hotels charge in or around €2, The Montenotte Hotel charges €4.50 per head !!! They also went on to say that the chef would not have 'control' of the cake, almost as an excuse for the price, but as most people know 99.9% of Wedding Cakes are sourced by the Bride and Groom outside the Hotel. The Montenotte Hotel were the only hotel we have seen that do not provide some room's at reduce rate for wedding guests. Up until now The Montenotte Hotel. For wedding reception/banquet has just been overpriced, over rated and un-competitive in comparison to similar Hotels. Still despite all this, we were still thinking of having our wedding there despite the additional cost.. mostly for the venue and location. It is the most important day of your life after all.
But now is when the cracks appeared... As their Events Manager is on vacation for 2 weeks they were unable to even do a simple job like confirm availability, in case of overbooking., and this in the age when all booking is done on-line, and even the most basic 2 Star Hotel's have computers. Strangely The Montenotte Hotel offers online booking , and room availability checks from its website. But they are unable to confirm availability for their function room. Even their General Manager Brian was "adamant" that all events were to be handled by the Events Manager - so basically you can not book any event in this hotel if their Events Manager is off sunning themselves on a beach some where or off sick.
This hotel has a lot to learn if they expect to become a 4 Star Hotel. They may even need to check their marketing slogan.. 'Cork's Best Hotel Address'.. That it might be, a historically well know address, however that does not ensure a good hotel, In my opinion they are far from 'Corks Best Hotel'. As a result of this bad experience and as we were due to respond to another Hotel, we realised how good their overall package was - cost, location, views, professionalism etc we have decided to take our business elsewhere...
What a turnaround
The Hotel looks really well. I had stayed there when it was the country club and it is very much different. The staff and atmosphere is fab. It was only walking distance to town. I would defintely stay again.

The bloody Irish weather, reminds me of Northland - one minute fine and warm, next it's ******* down!!
We drove the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Skellig.

Finally in Ireland. The salty sea air fills my lungs as I breath deeply. We headed to our hotel, the Best Western hotel and It was lovely. Very nice view and a good price. We were thinking maybe we can pass these audi's and BMWs instead of them flying passed us (by the way, the drivers here drive ******* fast!).
