After Tara and Drew successfully acquired a rental car for us, we left Dublin in our dust and headed for greener pasture - Cork County. 1st stop a nice little lane way, the GPS thought we needed to see. We had a very pleasant afternoon in Blarney. Three of us kissed the stone and all of us made it to the top of the castle. The one who didn't kiss …
DINGLE-TRALEE-KILLARNEY-CORK - DAY 11
Showery morning but casual start at 1100 after the morning feed as we make our way north then east to return to Cork.
Tralee is quite a small place and apart from the recent Rose Of Tralee (last week) seems a bit flat by comparison and with plenty of For Lease signs.

We got into ireland and after a bit of a sleep in (we didn't get into dublin till 12pm the night before) and the stuffing around at Hertz for the rental car (which actually, when you add everything up, costed us a bit over $100/day, plus we got stiffed on the In-car-navigation as it wasn't up to date) we headed off to powerscourt waterfall. After a quick drive through Cork we continued south to Kinsale. We arrived during their Summer Arts Festival which will be going on all week. It's a picturesque port town sometimes referred to the Irish St Tropez. Lots of restaurants, small local shops, and pubs. Definitely a must ...
... massive, but I don't know whether I believe it's the largest, because it said 'blarney' next to it with an arrow pointing to it, which has come to be known as a word kind of meaning bullsh*t... (But not rude!) "That's blarney!" We got back on the bus and our next stop was a little town called Cobh, which was the last port that the Titanic picked up passengers before it sailed. We had a while there and didn't really know what to do with ourselves, ...

What a lovely weekend
I have just gotten back from a weekend in cork for a suprise birthday treat from my husband, while we did have a llittle difficulty finding the hotel, it was worth the effort. The hotel is just lovely, comfortable rooms, good food although it was too crowded in the restaurant Sunday afternoon so we went to the city centre to Greenes on MacCurtain street, (also excellent)
It was the hotel staff that really made it special they really made us feel at home and everybody seemed interested in us, and really looked after us.
Excellent weekend, lovely people we will be back!
My partner and I recently enjoyed two great days in Cork at the Jazz Festival and heard about The Montenotte Hotel from friends who live in the area. Apparantly it used to be called the Country Club and closed down last year. The new hotel is excellent and only reopened a week or two before we arrived. There is some work still going on but it´s mostly finished and idn´t interfere with our stay.
An absolute gem within walking distance of the City centre. From check in to check out we could not fault a thing even though the Hotel is in the finishing stages of a complete refurbishment. The friendly staff and luxury of the rooms did indeed make it a most memorable stay for all the right reasons. My partner and I spent 3 nights B+B with one evening meal included on a special offer through supervalugetawaybreaks and it was most enjoyable. The leisure centre has every convenience anyone would wish for and it was really lovely to spend a few days relaxing in the hotel. I have never encountered such friendly and efficient staff and I applaude the manner in which they greet and treat guests. We look forward to returning again soon. We also visited the restaurant and enjoyed a fabulous meal and although the staff in this area were non nationals their level of english was indeed excellent and they were extremely efficient and friendly. Many thanks to all the staff in the hotel as they helped to make our stay most enjoyable and memorable.
My oartner and I stayed at this hotel for a weekend on a package deal for 2 nights and one dinner. The room was really nice, with a lovely bed and the views from the bar and bistro is stunning. It's also very close to the city centre.
We stayed last weekend for the Jazz and it was fantastic!!
From the bedrooms to the service we had a fab time The only thing that we were unhappy about is that we could not get a table to dine the restaurant at an early hour as they were booked out but they did everything they could to assist us and we eventually got to eat at a later time ! Anyway we will deinfetely go back and be booking well in advance this time round.
Great Food! Dont miss it!
Me and few girlfriends decided to check out the new Montenotte Hotel, and wow was it great!
We had lunch in the new Bistro and you wouldnt recognise it from the Country club, the food was fantastic -5 star would reccomend it to anyone we have the carvery which was first class and later has some bits off the Tapas menu, i dont think there is anywhere like it in cork at the moment and was long overdue. The staff are great super friendly from the minute you walk in i agree with the the other posts keep up the good work!!!
Best i have seen yet
I stayed in room 302, was brand new, warm and the staff were friendly and very well trained. Lots of foreign staff but level of english was excellent.
Find other review very harsh and over the top.Sounds like a hand full mate. I'm not getting married anytime soon but if we were getting married in Cork i would consider it.
I have family going to Cork in January and have booked them in there.
The happiest day of my life
I got married in the Montenotte Hotel 4 weeks ago and I have to say from our initial enquiry to the big day its self everything was handled in a professional and friendly manner.
Both food and service were of the highest degree and id like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all involved in making our special day so memorable.
I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel as an excellent wedding venue
My Fiancée and I looked at this Hotel recently to host our Wedding sometime in 2007.
What a turnaround
The Hotel looks really well. I had stayed there when it was the country club and it is very much different. The staff and atmosphere is fab. It was only walking distance to town. I would defintely stay again.
