After Rotorua, we headed on over to our next place, Bryce's Cafe in Wharepapa. Bryce is the owner and is an avid rock climber and he started this cafe as a stop for fellow climbers wanting to have close access to the crags nearby (literally, a 3-minute drive from this cafe. This is a cafe that has four rooms for rent. We were planning on staying here for 3 nights.

There's a lot less drinking than I expected. They say it’s not a party hostel. It’s more of a surfing hostel. People will have a couple beers and the weekends get wild but weekdays people are drinking lots of water and going to bed at decent times to get up early and surf. Sometimes 6AM depending on when the tides, winds, etc. are favorable.

I’m starting to learn some surfing terminology.

I had a large tube so struggled to paddle as I sunk so far into the tube but luckily Cat helped me when I got stuck.
