Great Value Hotel with superb location
Just back from a 2 week stay at this hotel and have to say it is one of the better hotels I've stayed at recently. When we arrived we were checked in really quickly, we were given a map of the hotel with the main areas highlighted such as the pool and the dining room. We were on the 2nd floor and there was no lift but there were "handy men" if you needed a helping hand. The front stair well was really smelly, but the hotel staff said that with 3 hurricanes in a row they had some floods, we were able to see this for ourselves when there was a 4th hurricane (more about that later). The room itself was very, very clean and the maids did an excellant job, there were always clean towels, bed linnen and endless supply of coffee etc in the room. The free transportation was excellant and the hotel is within walking distance of universal so we didn't need to pay for the shuttle (the hotel charged $4 per person, so if you're a family and you don't fancy walking you're cheaper getting a cab as it's only about $8).
The hotel also did a free continental breakfast which included cereal ,juice, tea, coffee, muffins, eggs, toast, bagels and the most delicous cinnamon coated warm pastries. It was buffet style so you could have as much as you wanted. I reckon that we probably saved about $10 or $15 dollars each day by having the free breakfast.
Now the hurricane. It was called hurricane Jeanne and it was heading straight for Orlando, luckly it diverted at the last minute but we were still affected by the strong winds and very heavy rain. Again the hotel could not have been more helpful. They came round with a letter from the manager explaining their procedures for the hurricane and that we should contact him if we had any queries what so ever. We were under curfew for a whole day so the hotel changed the time of breakfast to lunchtime so that we were able to get something to eat. (there were no restauraunts or stores open) and they kept us updated as things developed. They even put a microwave in the reception area to heat up snacks and things. The hotel handled the situation extrememly well, which is much more than I could say for my tour company. And the stair well flooded with all the rain so now I know why it smelled!
There is also an information desk in th foyer of the hotel and they can organise trips and stuff for you, if there are all adults in your party they offer "cheaper than gate" disney passses etc. So it may be worth a look. Thery also have adverts for cheap park tickets for seaworld and busch gardens etc, but I would be wary because there is a 90 minute timeshare meeting involved. The women on the desk are good but they really push you to get taxis everywhere from the guy (JC is his name) who does the transport to universal. They charge $8 to go most places which are sometimes only about a 5 or 10 minute walk.
All in all the hotel was great, it had an excellant location, with helpful and friendly staff and a fabulous free breakfast. I would reccommend this hotel and would definatly stay there again.
Great place to stay
Just back from spending almost three weeks at this hotel. The room we were in was very nice, clean and well kept. It was cleaned on a daily basis and the girl who cleaned it was very nice and friendly and if she was late cleaning she was very apologetic because she was very busy. The reception staff were always very helpful and pleasant. The location was ideal for everything from attractions to restuarants. you could almost have walked to Universal Studios, it was only 5 minutes away. And the free shuttle was ideal to it only took about 35 minutes to get to the disney parks and it only stopped at one other hotel. Would stay at this hotel again anytime.
NO, NO, NO, what a DUMP!
After returning to i-drive from miami beach and staying in two beautiful hotels (rosen centre i-drive and courtyard marriott miami beach) we decided to choose holiday inn express. We have stayed in them before in the UK and seam to have been very nice, clean and well priced. WELL THIS ONE WASN'T. $85 dollar a night for what? Probably the dirtiest hotel room I have ever stayed in. Windows were filthy (looked like they hadn't been cleaned since the place had open 20 years ago including the several amount of flies, spiders, etc upturned on the sills), someone else's bodyhair all over the toilet, dirty and stained carpets, dirty and stained walls, poor furnishings, exposed electric wires around the tv area, other electrical outputs were hanging out from the wall. The service was bad also, we went to the pool in the morning (that wasn't to good either) Came back after 5 minutes to find bed sheets lying all over the room, so went back to the pool as thought the maid was cleaning the room and had stepped out for a minute. went back 1 hour later and the room was still the same, when complained to the reception I was told that she was probably on lunch and had just to wait until she had finished. The stairwells also unclean, chewing gum all over the carpet, towels on the carpet to stop the fire doors from closing, bin unemptied for days, ice machine never worked for the pull time we arrive, as did the phone card machine and atm. This hotel allows dogs so if you are allocated a room anywere near block 3 hold your nose unless you like wet dog and lots of it. They boast about the free deluxe breakfast they offer, this would be okay if you liked eating from polystyrene containers with plastic forks. 2 toasters between 200+ rooms, you had to queue for 30 minutes to use it. All in all this is easily the worst hotel I have stayed and definetely never again
Great Stay :)
We started out on our vacation on June 17th-June 22nd 2004. After leaving the airport we thought we would go straight to the hotel (3hrs before check in) to see if we could do an early check in. When we arrived at the Holiday Inn Express everything was very clean. We went in to the front desk and told it was not a problem to check in early. The girls working the desk, were very friendly and helpful. We took our luggage to our room and we then were on our way to one of the parks. The room was clean. We had 2 full size beds, however we did rent a cot because there were 2 adults and 3 children in our room. When we called for the cot, they brought it to our room within 5 minutes and even set it up for us. They do offer the free breakfast, it is not like a breakfast at a resturaunt, but it was fine for us, they offer - Muffins, cinna rolls, fruit, egg, coffee, tea, juice, milk. We ate breakfast there everyday of our stay, the kids enjoyed the cinna-rolls and muffins :) The pool was also great, although full most of the time. We never had a problem during our entire stay and I would stay at this hotel again. It is close to resturaunts, shopping and right near Wet N Wild water park. Upon check out we were not charged for the cot that we used. I mentioned it and she still never charged us. I recomend this hotel :) It is great for the nightly rate :)
Loved this hotel
Rooms were Very clean, quiet. The breakfast was clean, and had lots of food. The pool was exceptionally clean! This was within walking distance to restaurants, and convience stores, and the trolley. The staff was very friendly. Only problem, they had 1 computer to check internet mail, and it was very slow!
the Holiday Inn was the best hotel that I have ever stayed in!!! The pool and hotel were both beautiful. Great service also! i hope I can come again soon to the wonderful Holiday Inn, I loved it so much!!
Could have done better!
On arrival we found we had to pay extra for use of the in-room safe which we believed was included in the price paid, not a great lot but never the less an added expense. Next we were given a map of the builing and told we were on the 2nd floor, okay off we go NO LIFT!!!
Our bags were heavy but we managed but no offer of help to carry up the stairs so beware if you are unable to carry your bags.The room we were given was right next to the stairwell, right up to the early hours we were kept awake by this door being hitting the wall of out room. There was a door stop but it was not in the correct position to stop the handle hitting the door each time it was opened, when mentioned at reception we were told they would make sure we would be put in a different room on our return from 7 nights in St Petes but no other offer.On our return we were in another room but the only view we had was of a brick wall 3 feet away.The air conditioning was very noisy in both rooms, and they could also have done with a freshen up.One morning we were by the pool and there were no clean pool towels, I called at the reception at 10.30 and requested some, again at 11.30 and once again at 12 o/clock, at which time I requested to speak to the manager, withen 5 mins clean towels appeared.The free breakfast was very nice and the service was 2nd to none. The only fault I could find was at times the room was too full to cater for all the guests and you had to eat outside or wait till there was a free table. This is our 5th visit and I do know that some hotels are pretty basic on I. Drive but feel that the service at this one could have been better. The hotel were decorating some rooms while we were there so there may be some improvement in the decor shortly.
Good value, rooms & location
This hotel offers a great location, you can walk to the Wet´n Wild, Universal is a short drive away, the outlet mall is a few miles away and the International Drive offers many other servicies like, restaurants, bars, shops and other attractions. The staff is nice and friendly and the rooms have all the Hollyday Inn quality you would expect, the free breakfast is also helpful to get you started early.
Clean & well positioned
stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in june 2003. found it to be clean & tidy. rooms were fine , cleaned daily. airconditioning noisy but very effective. breakfast was fine and we were within ealking distance of numerous shops & restuarants. The only problem we had was the safe in the room was locked when we arrived but a staff memner came straight away to sort it out. It is a basic hotel but I would stay there again without hestiation.
Best hotel for us
We have been back this hotel 3 times and plan to go again, it is nice and clean. The staff are just brilliant. Two good pools one for adults and a shallow one for little ones. you get a good start to the day with an ample free breakfast, and unlimited tea, coffee, juice, in the lobby there is 24hour tea and coffee also free. in my party there were 3 disabled young people who were well catered for by the hotel.
