... Edinburgh soon though..
Anyway, day trip to Ellon, which is just half an hour out of town. Yay! Friend from uni lives here so went round, watched movies etc etc. Nothing too interesting, but it was nice to be away from the dorm for a bit! Leaving for holidays in a few weeks so things will finally get just a little more interesting. Until then, back to the books I go..
Okay, random and exceptionally early entry, but here we go -
So university decided to give me three nice holidays to work with, Christmas, Spring and Summer. Christmas is Barbados, Summer is the Eurotrip, but what to do with the Spring Break?
After looking at several options like much cheaper getaways to Europe, I decided I wanted to actually do something with this vacation, something that could help people. Heading down to ...
... not really a good time of year up in the Highlands to go aimlessly romping around :P
In December I'll be heading home quickly, nothing special - but then I have 2 big breaks coming up.. So many choices!
So no, I haven't died.. I'm just at university!
[also - having some problems with java because my university internet doesn't like me. sooo pics will come. eventually.]
... all taken care of the adventuring will begin. I'm starting to think Ill hop over to Dublin for a day or two before I start traveling south because I am dying to taste their Guinness! Ill write as soon as I know, but I think Ill be lounging around Scotland for two weeks while I get my ducks in a line. Obviously there isn't much to log yet but i promise it will get interesting soon!!!!
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom courtneynew... most things are labelled in arabic there. I'll let you know if it really helps or just extra deadweight when I get there. I shaved my hair off last night too(with the dodgy aid of the reflective side of a cd-rom) so I could do without hair gel or shampoo.
To be honest I haven't really been excited about the trip till last night when I did a little more research on where I'm going. Now its all come in a rush and I wish I was leaving today instead!
I made it back to Stonehaven today. Amazingly, the sun was out in full force, a complete contrast from yesterday. I walked along the North Sea for a bit, enjoying a Cornish pasty, and then made the roughly three-mile hike up to Dunnottar Castle, also overlooking the sea. The hike was amazing, but largely uneventful. The photos say more than I could hope to.
I leave for the U.S. tomorrow morning around 8:30 a.m ...
Heather and I should have known better. We left the house at 1:30 to catch the train to Stonehaven. It was overcast, but not yet raining, and in our haste we each forgot to grab an umbrella. By the time we arrived in Stonehaven it was raining pretty steadily. The walk from the train station to the city center only lasted about fifteen minutes, but by the end of it, my clothes were soaked ...
Stonehaven, Scotland, United Kingdom jonesweslI rose around 9:00 and went for a run down Union Street (the main drag). People looked at me like I was nuts. Apparently exercise isn't an Aberdonian specialty, particularly at 9 a.m. Afterward, I found a small out-of-the-way sandwich shop where I bought a roast beef and bacon sandwich with spicy English mustard. I enjoyed the sandwich on a bench facing Soul Casino— ...
Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom joneswesl... t true. For example, "Turn left at King Street" might be rendered in Scottish as "OytearnloftaytKyngsdreed."
... enough "pictures of cows and barns" from earlier so I really didn't stop to take any. I arrived in Aberdeen around 4ish, and I proceeded to drive the twenty miles or so north to Cruden Bay, the course I was planning on playing the next day. I found it easily (get to the small town, turn towards the ocean, there's the course) and set up a tee time for 9AM. With that set, I went into town to find a room. Of course, there were ...
