We relented and visited Carlisle Castle on our way here to Windermere. It was another castle after all but with a slight difference in that it was beseiged by northern neighbours frequently. It was also a good place for morning tea before we headed out towards the western coast. We followed an AA car tour and thoroughly enjoyed Skinburness and the view to Dumfries and Galloway over very calm waters. We meandered down the coast calling in ...

... was scary, thankfully we were all accounted for and safe. We stopped and took in the magnificent scenery, we could still see the ocean, although there was cloud, we could still see Scotland. We hear this farmer yelling we thought he was herding sheep as he was running down the hill towards us. He finally caught up with us ...

... to shine for us, and on our way back to our room we headed up the hill at the end of our street to get yet another amazing view of the lake. We had only time for a short rest before dinner - the Angel Inn for a pub meal to finish our visit to the Lake District. Exhausted we headed back up the hill (again) having done about 19 km for the day. With this blog finished I should sleep well ...

    The Lake District

A travel blog entry by theriggs on Jun 03, 2015

We got an early start (for us) and headed towards the Lake District. With only 45 minutes to get here, we had plenty of time to explore the area before heading to our accommodation at the Westbourne B&B at Windermere (a recommended accommodation by the Morecombe Tourist Information Centre). Arriving at Windermere we headed straight to the Tourist Information Centre, where we were given some information about walks in the area and gardens we could visit. We ...
