... manage to photograph a blue jay. We were then driven over the Tioga Pass road which reached 9945 feet as we left Yosemite National Park. A few miles later we arrived at Lake Mono which is a salt lake (twice as concentrated as the Pacific). The lake is inhabited by algae which feed the only other life capable of surviving, brine shrimps. The shrimps attract large numbers of black fly which provide food for the many nesting birds which live on an island in the centre of the ...

My friend Bill Gay or "Balloo the bear" (PCT name), has been talking about this lake ever since he and his son Brandon "Goofy" hikes past it on their 900 mile PCT section hike in 2012. Tomorrow is the end of mine and Kyle's hike of section K of the PCT. We only have 10 miles to go to get some great food and a ...

Woke to 26 degrees outside. No wonder it was so cold in the motor home with the heater not on! Later this morning we decided to ride our bicycles into the town of South Lake Tahoe on the bicycle trails. It was a beautiful ride through part of the forest and also paralleling Hwy 50. Along the way we stopped at El Dorado Park which has access to Bear Beach. Before we knew it, we had crossed the ...
