... an eruption may be imminent in the next 25 years. Furnas is a largish town which is a tourist centre but is also very clearly a normal village which runs a life separate from tourism. I liked it but I was glad I had not based as here which I had considered as I think it is better in Ponta Delgada. The next stop is the highlight for me. There is a complex of thermal pools (temp 39 degrees C) where you can relax and spend a pleasant hour or two. The complex is popular even in ...

... calmer. By the time we docked at the Azores, we had beautiful 70 degree days. The Azores are 600 miles west of the mainland of Portugal. Being subtropical,

We are now on Sao Miguel, the capital being Ponta Delgardo which is a commercial port but the town looks good. When the rain stops ...

... to our cabin shortly afterwards. Before long we hear the ship sound her horn and we depart our last port of call. Our next stop is Southampton on Sunday morning. We enjoy a glass of bubbly as we sail out of Ponta Delgada. As we leave we have an escort of seabirds skimming low over the waves but we soon leave them in our wake. Cocktails in the Imperial Lounge, Dinner in the main dining room, flutter in the casino, wine in the Viking Crown. Yes you all know the routine by now. Fantastic day ...

    Playing Catch Up

... Not on my PICKitarian... oops, I mean VEGitarian wife's menu. She chose a restaurant prepared fish dinner. Maybe I should have to, dinner in the ground - not so much. I wasn't gagging or anything, but it just tasted like a completely boiled meal (which, I guess, it was), with a kind of funky, sulphery taste. At least it did'nt hit the pocket book too hard, that would've been adding insult to injury.
After our late lunch/dinner we stopped by the site where ...
