dali, China chinatravel... shopping before heading home. However we were told we were not going to leave until Sunday instead of Saturday. Everyone was disappointed. No break before work and we were beginning to miss families. Okay, it was just one day, but I take a couple to recover and I felt I'd seen enough of Kunming. The following morning Kim our guide said we could get an earlier flight - that afternoon! We had a minute to decide. Earlier or later? It was tough, but all ...
Dali, Yunnan, China red_gamer... she's promised to buy us some rice wine and yellow wine to taste (nothing like a practical class:P). At one point she asked us what do you call people who were very fond of alcohol and we all answered "Irish!"!^^ Chinese cooking was on the menu after class, whereby we went into the kitchen and watched them cook, buuuuut with the goat in mind, I opted out! Mid afternoon we were called to go pay our fees, it was entertaining to see the woman trying to figure out my name in ...
Dali, China stephfitzsmith... It is true. I saw the class reunion pictures and gulped in horror how old I really am. By a mere coincidence the book I bring to the monastery doesn't fit the place or the purpose, but fits the going-back-to-what-you-use-to-love theme. It is a detective novel and a good one too. Before my 14th birthday, there were two authors only on my reading list - Raymond Chandler and Douglas Adams. It was my dream to become a detective and solve tangled murder ...
Dali, Yunnan, China orizarska... a walled town. I reached Dali at about 3pm and got off the bus and started walking through the gate in the wall and a guy followed me and seemed to indicate about following him for accommodation. I let him pass as I wanted to see "No.3 Guesthouse" as mentioned in Lonely Planet but we passed by "No.6 Guesthouse" which looked nice from the outside so I thought I'd take a look and indeed it wasn't bad at all so I took a room and unpacked. Outside was a little stream ...
Dali, China glyn... was the nicest i have ever had. After than us young'uns (Toby, Jelle and I) headed to Bad Monkey for our last taste of nightlife before heading to the rural outback village of Shangqing. In the pub we met some random Malaysian people who taught us a rubbish chinese drinking game which was basically, "lets target the foreigners" before one of them proceeded to tell me i was going to hate my two weeks in Hong Kong. I felt like poking him in the eye.
Dali, China tiffanytasker... breakfast (eggs, hash browns, toast and tea) for 20 yuan, a Bai-style tofu hotpot soup thing (23 yuan for that and fresh-squeezed OJ), and fried rice (8 yuan). Alright, so I went it alone. I found out biking to the base of the mountain was a bad idea due to the uphill ride, so I followed the advice of the guesthouse woman and took a taxi there. This turned out to be unnecessary because it wouldn't have been a very long walk at all, and the cabbie charged me 15 yuan ...
