Preamble

How many pairs of socks? Can my underpants survive several iterations? Is it safe to wash them in the Tonle Sap?

So many questions and no simple answer.

Planning is something best left to Project Managers ... or boring people. I prefer to let my bag pack itself. But there are some things one should always remember for a jaunt in the crazy land of Khmerdom. I have about 10 days to remember what they are!

A jaunt down the motorway

With time rapidly dwindling I went down to Banbury way this afternoon to visit my brother et famille before I leave, taking the opportunity to say goobye to two young nephews - one of whom was able to appreciate some of the implications of what I am doing, "But what if you get sick?" he asked. :-)

Back up to Stoke in the late evening. Last day of preparations tomorrow.

Goodbye Norfolk! Hello....Northampton!

A quick update. Things have moved on, including us. We're pleased to report that a few days ago Brian the van was declared healthy, after some serious re-constructive surgery!

On Monday we left Norfolk and began a series of public transport journeys that would take us from Norwich to London, London to Cheltenham (to visit with friends for a couple of nights) and then Cheltenham to Birmingham to finally pick up our beloved Brian. We ...

Day minus 1: Sod's law

"Whatever can go wrong at the most inopportune moment, will" Sod's law

All I had to do today was to get the laptop ready for travel: clear out old files to make space for photos, transfer my planning files with all the hotel, travel and other necessary detail; and check in.

First the laptop email chose ...

Lowestoft to Southwold Beach Walk

... sea. This place was mystical in every sense, the trees had been bleached by the salt water and looked as if they had been placed there by the most talented of artists. We could not help but be impressed with the visual delights, I would highly recommend this area to anyone.

We moved on further to find more and more interesting sights, more bleached trees and a massive expanse of inland water, thousands of birds, including the heron flew around us and waded ...

... it. Fortunately, it was relatively simple in that it was their line, in between the rudder and the skeg, that was causing the problem. I was able to saw the offending bits out with the rip saw blade of my Leatherman multi-tool and I did so with only a few cuts and abrasions from the barnacles that had found a home on top of the rudder, where there was no antifouling. So, bloody and tired but relieved, I hauled myself out of the water and announced to the boys, who of course ...

Unscheduled Stop in Southwold

... by Pete & Margaret Grenfell on their Southerly 135, ie the couple who anchored with us in Holkham Bay on Tuesday night - they rafted outside us and thus enabled us to become acquainted over aperitifs. They live in Leamington Spa and keep their boat in Woodbridge, so you never know, we may well meet up during the winter months. Aperitifs over, we had spaghetti Bolognese and lots of chat and went to bed happy in the knowledge that the boys were having a ball.

Free Hotel, here we come!

... Delicious Katsudon, a welcome change from Greek gyros and salads :)

And before we depart, we tried to board the train from Platform 9 3/4, but I guess we didn't run fast enough towards the wall, hehehe...
