Caerlaverock Castle - Maxwell House!

... the previous castle built 200 metres away,) and enlarged in 1635, it was sacked by Protestants in the later 1600s and left to rot. Almost no-one else there, a very informative ticket seller to fill in the history, we had a great time. Brilliant sunny day too. We were so lucky. We also looked at the foundations of the first castle.

Then drove back along the shore of Solway Firth to another farm camp. Distant echoes of fireworks, this being Guy Fawkes ...

... all situated about 10mns walk from where our vans were pitched, and whilst I am virtually self sufficient in my van I have to empty my toilet cassette daily and there was no way I was going to carry that for half a mile. So each day I had to unhook the van and drive down to the facilities to empty the toilet and then drive back, apart from this the site was lovely.
At this new Rally there were about 8 vans that had moved on from Windermere and a further 10 that were new. ...

... early. I amazingly had phone reception, and rang and asked if we could come early (by this stage we were right outside!) and the man was nice but said the bags had not yet come....but we were in luck, ours were the only ones that HAD arrived, and he was OK for us to have the room, which for the first time was on the ground floor and we didn't have the lugging of bags up stairs that we usually do! So all amazingly ...

... to have much luck finding a campground that was affordable and close to sights, but we managed to score a nice spot to camp, right in Ambleside, near the top of Lake Windermere and it only cost us 10 a night. They provided fresh water and a dumping station for grey water, etc and we had the chance to give a good tryout to our solar panels & auxiliary batteries, as well as the Gaz-Low system. If you are Australian, you might be wondering was the Gaz-Low system ...
