... with a train of covered grain hoppers pulled by three locomotives built in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Two of the locomotives were SD-40Ts aka Tunnel Motors because there were designed for use by Southern Pacific in the snow sheds and tunnels over Donner Pass. ... that had to be figured out as it was not readily announced . . . or if it was, it could not be heard by ANYONE!!

But, after the usual confusion, they got us hustled to our car . . . not a very long walk . . . and to our 'sleeper' room . . . it was nicer than the roomette of previous trips . . . and a little better than our ViaRail digs earlier in the trip! And, we got a little bottle of champagne . . . for our troubles!!

... on the till and decided to 'times by four minus two'. We didnt argue its the cheapest bottle of wine ever... Saw bald eagle and osprey in town.... The drive started going through the Cascade mountains....interesting, but for the next three hours driving past spuds, peas, sweetcorn, wheat....
