Monte Carlo, an unbelievable place

... or as they say, American) style gaming.

I had a relaxing time. Bit of shopping, eating, drinking and walking around just admiring the wealthy end of the world. It is expensive tho. Meals and drinks are way over-priced (about $17 aussie for a Johnny Walker & coke!). You even have to pay to use the toilet at the shopping centre and main tourist areas. I won some money at the main casino, then lost it (and some more) at the hotel ...

And so it begins. my life as a teacher? day 1

... committed by kids. except using much smaller words. maybe at least they'll think i'm older than i look now?

btws when asked my age i replied, a true lady never reveals her age. my 2 faves in the class laughed at that one. at least someone got my jokes!

and tomorrow?
another day of very early rising to greet the bus, and go to a class that i may or may not actually have.(thanks eve)

Nice was nice

... the most beautiful boats in the world are in MonteCarlo...

Language is more interesting in france. If we try to do the simple tourist things then most people can work out what is going on but when we try something else eg. going to the doctor (sue has been sick) going to a chemist.. or finding a Laundamatt.. then the language thiig is a bit more animated....

have some grat pics of Nice and French Rivierra to show when we get home...

I'm in Monte Carlo baby!

... Monday’ by the Bangles at the airport. Too true...

12hrs after i checked out of my Barcelona hotel, i am in Monte Carlo!!!!! Luckily got the last bus from the Nice airport to Monaco. Amazing bus trip here. I think i was wide-eyed and jaw dropped for much of it. Although it is night, you can see some amazing views, yachts and cross some bridges with HUGE drop-offs down into the coastal valley. The streets truly are Grand Prix style. Can't wait to ...

West of Eden

... Besides taking this time to relax we also decide to focus on cooking at our campsite so we went to the local Super Target/Costco like place called Carrefour. It was crazy busy at nine in the morning and nine at night. There we were able to buy tapenade (to mix with pasta and use as a spread), Nutella (no such thing as peanut butter in this part of the world), packaged crepes (instead of tortilla shells ...

Cannes Film Festival

... I walked back into the tent after two long days of feeling like I'd never left it and it was full of people! Not just people, though, celebrities in tuxedos and gowns. It was awesome. During the auction, I even got to stand in the crowd and signal a buyer who wanted to pay for a kiss with Robert Pattinson (from Twilight) for 20,000 euros! I saw President Bill Clinton, Sharon Stone, Diane Kruger, Joshua Jackson, Josh Hartnett, Dita Von Teese, Donatella Versace ...

Everyday Life

... a small town called Villefranche-sur-mer which means "town without taxes on the sea." It was a cute town with sailboats and small shops. We sat on the beach and ate ice cream. It was beautiful. I also went to the Nice Museum of Modern Art with one of my classes. Ross and I are planning trips to Paris and Corsica. Corsica is not far off the coast of France and will hopefully remind me of Catalina. We are planning that trip for Easter weekend. Paris will be ...

Last days in Antibes and surrounds

... the towns natural beauty and layout, were that it was originally an Episcopal town, so many churches. We drove on through slowly enjoying what we could see, all the while looking for somewhere to have a very late picnic. Nothing, so headed back for home. The whole day had been a giant loop drive. In between Nice and Antibes discovered a lovely rural park, so a picnic was possible. A long day for the driver!!! Monday and we caught the train to Cannes. Only a ...

Antibes

... the Fort is lovely and shows the village superbly. We have found all the local supermarkets and more importantly the Marche Provincale. One of the best and oldest markets on the Cote d'Azure. Again our guide to boats and Antibes, James, advised that given a preference, this market is the only one chefs of the various boat ever use. We can see why. Quality is superb and a great variety. Just around the corner from us as is Heidi's English Book Shop. An ...
