tWhat a huge room. After some of the tiny rooms, it was great to spread out and, a bath. Full marks to The Ilchester

No rest for the wicked in the morning. As soon as we got back to the path, it was uphill. Not the best way to settle breakfast. But we were quickly learning that villages are at sea level where there is access to the water so mornings start with a climb and each day ends with a descent. But today was indeed a little flatter as we walked along …

... some of the village streets are often used in movie scenes. One of the Abbey corridors was in the first Harry Potter movie. Unfortunately thee Abbey and most of the village shops were closed even though it was only 4PM. We took some photos and got back into the car to decide whee to stay for the night. There was even a small group of swimmers. I would like to say that they must be mad, but I have a cousin who takes wild swimming to the extreme and I have no doubt she would think nothing of swimming off Weymouth beach at this time of year.

... for several weeks in 2003/04. Lunch was in an authentic country Pub, the Queen's Head. Many of the pubs have become parts of chains with standard menus, but not the Queens' Head. The drive down was trouble free and we "moved in" at 3:00. After a quick trip into Sherborne 20 minutes away for provisions we returned to the cottage to settle in. This is not a cottage as we know it in Canada, rather one in a row of four of what we would call ...

... all over the UK. There were cheese wheels stacked to the ceiling and plenty of staff to let us sample as many as we wanted. We made the mistake of buying a wedge of semi- hard stinky cheese which we then carried around the Tate Modern museum, which unlike the cheese was not to our taste. We now know for sure that neither of us are fond of modern art. Fatigue got the better of me and ...
