Today we drove to Cades Cove in Smoky Mountain National Park. Because it was through the mountains, the road was slow but picturesque. We stopped at a picnic area for lunch, then continued on towards the Cades Cove loop. Part way along the loop, we hiked to the Abrams Falls. About a 5 m hike ...

Today we drove through the center of the park. We did a short trail walk in the afternoon and then headed to Clingman's dome (6643ft high) for sunset - around 5:30. We broke into two teams for the challenge: Heidi/Heather/and one of their friends, and myself/Martin on the other team. You had to not only make it all the way through the maze to the other end, but also find the letters M, A, Z, and E (not necessarily in that order). The three girls made it through much quicker than Martin and I, and they climbed some steps to get an arial view ...

... likely think that I'm a local. But it's such a gas to hear the conversations going on around me with the local expressions and all. The plan for today is some for the girls to do what they enjoy and then we'll be heading out to Jean's mom's house just on the outskirts of Clinton and take her out for dinner. While it's a little day-to-day on the planning side, we have made arrangements to drive into Atlanta for Friday - stay overnight at the Renaissance Concourse Atlanta Hotel ...
