Great little inn on the river a short walk from Interlaken West station. Laid back atmosphere. Room was nice with great view of the Bernese Alps from our window. Restaurant terrace is a great spot for a drink while watching the Aare river roll by. Good value for the money if you're looking for a spot with some local character.

We used our Eurail Pass to travel first class for most of the trip between Strasbourg and Interlaken. No mingling with the common folk for us today. This is traveling in style on the high speed train.Three countries in three three hours. France, Germany, Switzerland.

We arrived in Interlaken shortly after noon and checked into our hotel …

... to the farmer and his wife who told him he spoke very good German. Drove back to Lucerne to have the afternoon and evening free to ourselves. Walked around town to look at all the Swiss watch shops and sample some Swiss chocolate! Ang had to call in to the Tag Heuer shop as her watch had stopped a couple of weeks ago and needed to get a new battery. They did it in 2 hours and it only cost 25 Swiss francs, rather than $200 back home! Another awesome ...

... Very much our type of place. We had lunch of quiche lorraine - obviously a local dish - washed down with the local white vino. The restaurant was quaint, with tables set outdoors in a cobbled courtyard. We then drove the short distance to Ribeauville which was not quite so atmospheric, but we were taken with the storks nesting on the roof of one of the buildings. After buying some of the locally ...

... authenticated the truth of this story.

One sunny day, a young cooper arrived in the Pilatus region. It was late in the year and he was searching for rods with which to make barrel hoops in winter. Deep in his search, without thinking, he climbed higher and higher up the forbidden mountain. Not until dusk began to fall did he realise with horror that he was just beneath the summit. Terrified, he started to hurry downwards but stumbled and lost his footing. ...

One of those “desktop backgrounds” or in other words a place that is barely believable even when you can see it with your own eyes, is the city of Lucerne, Switzerland. Lucerne is no hidden treasure, with tourists and travellers alike coming for hundreds of years to visit the history and sights of this breathtaking lakeside town in central Switzerland. However it is by no ...
