Great little inn on the river a short walk from Interlaken West station. Laid back atmosphere. Room was nice with great view of the Bernese Alps from our window. Restaurant terrace is a great spot for a drink while watching the Aare river roll by. Good value for the money if you're looking for a spot with some local character.

We used our Eurail Pass to travel first class for most of the trip between Strasbourg and Interlaken. No mingling with the common folk for us today. This is traveling in style on the high speed train.Three countries in three three hours. France, Germany, Switzerland.

We arrived in Interlaken shortly after noon and checked into our hotel …

... generally being extremely grateful that I was able to share this with not only my own little family, but the hosts of the home which we rented, and amazing friends Christel and Richard who joined us that afternoon.

To repeat a phrase from yesterday…Herrlich!

The shops are not open, this Mama Histon is "on holiday" and Tony just opened up a bottle of wine.

Today it's just about the photos!

... car up to the better viewing mountain was closed and in the afternoon cause it was €30 cheaper!!). Now I thought the views from the town were sensational, but this was unreal, you could see the peaks all around from the top. The other very very exciting thing about going up this mountain is that it's still covered in snow (you can ski all year round in this part of the alps) and this enabled me to touch snow for the very first time in my life (much to the amusement ...

From the pictures you'll see the progression of the trip today. We left the hotel by bus this morning for the mountains and it was a beautiful drive from Lucerne to Grindewald where we caught the cog wheel train that took us to the Kleine Scheidegg area at the 6700 ft. level of the Alps. We went through mountainous countryside villages, quaint and idyllic, as picturesque as you can imagine when you think of ...

... Very much our type of place. We had lunch of quiche lorraine - obviously a local dish - washed down with the local white vino. The restaurant was quaint, with tables set outdoors in a cobbled courtyard. We then drove the short distance to Ribeauville which was not quite so atmospheric, but we were taken with the storks nesting on the roof of one of the buildings. After buying some of the locally ...
