Great little inn on the river a short walk from Interlaken West station. Laid back atmosphere. Room was nice with great view of the Bernese Alps from our window. Restaurant terrace is a great spot for a drink while watching the Aare river roll by. Good value for the money if you're looking for a spot with some local character.

We used our Eurail Pass to travel first class for most of the trip between Strasbourg and Interlaken. No mingling with the common folk for us today. This is traveling in style on the high speed train.Three countries in three three hours. France, Germany, Switzerland.

We arrived in Interlaken shortly after noon and checked into our hotel …

I've been meaning to post an update over the last couple of days but our schedule has been quite hectic that there was no time to do so. But finally, we find ourselves in bed at 9pm after a long day at Jungfrau (more on that later) so thought it would be a good time to write about Lucerne!

We left Salzburg on Thursday around midday and got into Lucerne around 18:00. The first night was pretty easy going, we checked in and then went out to ...

... group, and Daryl who made it back in time, to do a lake cruise and then up the Strasserhorn by cog train and cable car. Unfortunately by the time we got there the cloud had rolled in and it was a complete whiteout. Still the ride up and down was scenic and the hot chocolate at the top was worthwhile. The cows and their tinkling bells coming out of the mist, go with the chocolate box ...

... We were stuck in traffic before the largest tunnel in Europe, that would get us through the mountains. All of a sudden we look out the window to see Richie running down the street. He'd jumped out to go get some water. Free from the tunnel we got to take in the spectacular sights that was Switzerland. The beautiful scenery and icy blue water. Sadly someone was playing a horrible music playlist with one ...

... Very much our type of place. We had lunch of quiche lorraine - obviously a local dish - washed down with the local white vino. The restaurant was quaint, with tables set outdoors in a cobbled courtyard. We then drove the short distance to Ribeauville which was not quite so atmospheric, but we were taken with the storks nesting on the roof of one of the buildings. After buying some of the locally ...
