Great little inn on the river a short walk from Interlaken West station. Laid back atmosphere. Room was nice with great view of the Bernese Alps from our window. Restaurant terrace is a great spot for a drink while watching the Aare river roll by. Good value for the money if you're looking for a spot with some local character.

We used our Eurail Pass to travel first class for most of the trip between Strasbourg and Interlaken. No mingling with the common folk for us today. This is traveling in style on the high speed train.Three countries in three three hours. France, Germany, Switzerland.

We arrived in Interlaken shortly after noon and checked into our hotel …

... and the crackly audio fairly basic. It was interesting to hear though that at some of the old barber shops you can have a bath, and that the barbers can also do some minor surgeries!! (What!?). We did keep getting peeks at the wonderful snow capped alps through the buildings that were free of clouds today, and made me wonder just what it would be like to live here and see this all the time. After the train we returned to our hotel and ...

... a 10 miles long tunnel that cuts into the mountains. FUN FACT: The Swiss have hollowed out many parts of the surrounding mountains to serve as fallout shelters in case of nuclear wars or attacks. They even have fully functional hospitals inside and the army have complete bases prepared inside.

After a sleepy morning we all arrived in Lucerne more alert. Must have been the fresh alpine air. Before heading to the hotel, Clare took us ...

... have taken that trip even though we had to double back and go another way. We decided to head straight for Lucern now as it was getting late in the afternoon.

Lucern is a large town surrounded by mountains on all sides. The girl at our last accommodation described it as "a chicken in a nest". Lucern possesses a beautiful lake of it's own. We find our accommodation which overlooks the lake and settle in. Paddle steamers pull up at ...

... Very much our type of place. We had lunch of quiche lorraine - obviously a local dish - washed down with the local white vino. The restaurant was quaint, with tables set outdoors in a cobbled courtyard. We then drove the short distance to Ribeauville which was not quite so atmospheric, but we were taken with the storks nesting on the roof of one of the buildings. After buying some of the locally ...
