Departure Day - Part 2: Out of Eden

... at the bottom. I wandered around for a bit, decided to have a spot of tea in the café as it was the only eaterie that wasn't horrifically expensive (and it still wasn't cheap although the weak pound may have something to do with that).

Decided to catch a movie as hanging out in bars isn't really my scene, the screens were showing on central european time (an hour ahead) even though the rest of the ship was on GMT, which caused some ...

Meeting the Postman & my family!

Woke up this morning in Shefield & guess what? it was raining again, just for a change!! After a leisurely breakfast, Stuart turned up & we set off on the short trip to Weston park Hospital in Sheffield for a quick photo & then on to Leeds. Here we met another one of Colin's friends, Dominic & Viv on a very impressive BMW GS1200 Adventure.

Day 1- 251 miles

... sheets. Let's hope my 3 other room mates don't mind my snoring! At least I got there early and bagged the bottom bunk!

Up early to get some breakfast and to try to work out where to head to tomorrow. Nothing booked yet...let's see what happens. Left the LR tonight with a strange rattle, not sure what it is, sounds serious, lets hope I can work it out tomorrow and it doesn't cost too much :-(

Lonesome George's insomnia

Lonesome George is a tortoise who lives in the Galapogos Islands. The last of his kind he is the rarest creature in the world. Despite having a small hareem of female tortoises for his leisure and earthly pleasures he persists in a state of unnautural abstinence that would make even the most dedicated Buddhist monk envious. That or maybe he just ain't all that attractive to the ladies. Not being a tortoise, I can't comment further, but for the namesake and the fact ...

From Coventry to Newcastle

... darned good. So it was worth it :)
We clambered back down and it was super narrow going down. We stopped for a drink at the $1 pound store where you could get 2 Pepsi Max 500ml drinks for $1. We then headed back to the bus where we hopped on bang on time and off we went.
We drove a couple of hours to get to Newcastle, I had a doze with my headphones on and Dan just chilled. We stayed at the Jury's Inn and reached it by 3.30pm ...

BBC Radio Interview

... document enclosed. How advantagious was that to my interview? I also got a list of all this years fellows which was really great to have and even I am really surprised at the scope of the projects, people and subjects. Right, time to go because there is a reporter coming from the Wear Valley Mercury this afternoon to interview me. Did I mention this was another gift from our Press Officer? Now where is my lipstick.....

Leaving Party

Well well well. From friday through to sunday of non stop drinking, rounded off with an amazing party in Saints. I hope people had an great time like we did. Kris was playing some classics and was fab to see everyone dancing the night away. I remember leaving Charlies at 5 in the morning but before was much a blur. The turn out was brilliant and we were shocked. Thanks to all who came and made a send off ...

In the Classroom

... OWN. I think he said that they had 7000 books much smaller than ours I believe. The PE class we visited was much like ours - a few setting out due to medical notes but running the 1500 meters. They have an all grass track here. This spring they will be playing mainly cricket and rounders! By the way when we asked about school dances they told us they get 1 (One) yes one in the entire time they are here! It is a prom for the 16 year olds only. After school we went ...

Out of Scotland Already?!

... They also house a ruined abbey. I have to say that the grounds were much more interesting than the palace.

Overall, Holyroodhouse Palace is a lot like Edinburgh Castle: it's much more impressive from the outside than from the inside. But, like Edinburgh Castle, a first-time visitor should stop there in order to get a glimpse of history. But, don't expect to learn much about the lives of the royals or the history of the city from a visit.

We spent about an ...
