... and their french Boyfriend! We drank wine and soaked under the hot falls until the wee hours. Truly magical! Today I had planned to ride again but the rain came back a day early and it is meant to pelt for the next 7 days....really over this rain....well good time to go back to the hot springs then. Our journey this evening into the past of the Maori people was wonderful; as we were leaving the meeting house for dinner, they shared this with us;

“The bird who feeds from the middle tree owns the Forest, and the bird who feeds from the tree of knowledge owns the World.”

Although simple, I love it.

... is so much geothermal activity in Rotorua so I saw lots of steaming rock and bubbling pool…it’s a very real reminder of how NZ is precariously positioned over 2 tectonic plates.

That night I went out with some Australians I met in my dorm...They had somehow managed to befriend all of the bar staff which made for a very funny and cheap night.

Next stop - Auckland!

... Shire from Tolkien's The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. Since they only finished reusing the Hobbiton set a few days ago for the new Hobbit films - and we had been travelling since then - I thought it might be a good idea to drop in and confirm things would still happen tomorrow. After that it was a quick stop across the road to have some refreshments before heading back out on to the road.

... into the main river, whereas I enjoyed the warmer water near the stream. Eventually more people started to arrive, and as I had just had enough, it was pretty good timing. I got out and sunned myself on the rocks and dried in no time. Then headed back to town, where I first stopped at the supermarket to get some cheese, icecream and frozen burgers as I was having a massive craving. Headed back to the hostel where I was able to put my goodies into the only freezer on the premises ...
