... there and not try one, well it was gross and I didn't finish it but I can now say that I have tried one! After our Popsicles we headed over to see Salt Mountain, a big pile a salt. They have created a path so that you are able to climb to the top. Most of the salt is all hardened making it easy to climb on but in some areas it is still loose. It reminded me of snow hills from when I was younger. It was very strange but cool at the same time ...
Tainan, Taiwan ashleysblog... take us to a night market the girl at Han Lin told me about, but the cab guy said there wasn't anything there and dropped us off near the Chihkan tower again and said the best local food is around here. So we got off, tried the "coffin" bread which is a tainanese delicacy anyway and some other foods and cabbed back - all that in under an hour and for the first time I didn't break out into a sweat when I headed out.

I had originally tried to write this ...

This temple had many cool and intricately carved wooden rafters and spiritual icons depicting the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac festooned the walls.

On the next morning, we met up with one of Luke's friends. We drove to the nearby city of Anping where we visited Fort Zeelandia. I bought a marble soda (something I haven't had in many ...

The hot springs,(Sichong River Hot Springs) The Sichong River was first developed as a hot spring destination during the late 19th century and today it is considered one of the best spring areas in Taiwan. The high quality carbonic acid spring water is rich in minerals said to improve blood circulation and relieve stiff muscles. Can I just say that I fell in love with the hot springs and could have sat in them all night long. Its funny my ...
Tainan, Taiwan ylavent... at the department stores. Its like a festival, similar to a state fair or 2nd Street Festival ( for those of you from Richmond) but very very crowded. For those of you who like your personal space, like me, it takes some getting used to. Lets see what did I try, I sampled some very tasty spicy mushrooms, snail, spicy "fish" eggs, pigs intestines or "chitin's"( they taste very much like "American" chitin's), oyster omelet, papaya corn, ice cream that is wrapped in a dough like ...
Tainan, Taiwan ylavent... a taxi ride to the Gloria Prince Hotel to stay overnight. The hotel was very nice and they kindly upgraded us to a suite. Now the beds in Taiwan are not soft, so if you are used to a fluffy bed, then get over it! The next morning we took a flight from Tapei to Kaoshung. One of the graduate students from the University picked us up with her parents and took us to Tainan, where I am currently. They are very sweet and also took us to the ...
Tainan, Tainan, Taiwan ylavent... dissolved in hot water. There are only a few things I have eaten here that I really disliked. This "icy dessert" was one of them. My limited experience with Asian deserts is that they are not sweet, but this was very sweet to the point of being over powering. Shuying absolutely loved it. She ate all of her taro, most of mine, then had Dr Wu order extra. Ted, Melinda, and I all felt about the same, slightly queasy. Back in the car, we head for Tainan City via the interstate ...
