Stuffing it...

Tired of the American food at the resort, we went to a highly recommended seafood restaurant overlooking the bay for dinner called Linda Vista. The menu looked amazing and they brought out ridiculous sized raw samples of the food, but the food itself was poorly cooked and overpriced. The view and drinks, however, was definitely good!

Everyone told us that Acapulco wasn't a great place to visit. "There is nothing there…" or “Typical resort town…” Both are actually true, but that is actually makes the vacation depending on what you are looking for!

We chose Acapulco as we figured the other destinations wouldn’t be hot enough this time of …

Attempt #1 – Voted 8 on Authenticity

You never reaaaaallly believe the taxi driver when he says the restaurant is real authentic local cuisine. You just wonder how much commission he gets. However, on this occasion he was trying to sell us the real package of a tour day of Acapulco – he was being graded by his judgment of food!

Having a few lazy days and catching up with this blog, I'm up to date at last.

The first time I stopped to take the photo of Acapulco bay I got chased of the fence by a couple of marines. There is a naval base below but I bet its available on google earth.

To all of you who are sending messages a big thankyou.

On the road at 07:45 and it's only just light. There had been another heavy strom overnight and it was still pretty cool, so the water proofs were still on.
This time heading over the Sierra Madre Sur. Again slow gowing trucks, villages with innumerable speed bumps but iit is worth it.
I managed to stay on the free roads all day. I am …

Historical Traveler Reviews Grand Mayan Acapulco

    Amazing Resort

    from

We read all of the reviews and were very concerned about our stay in Acapulco. The reading all of the reviews really did help me with knowing what to look for... we ended up worried for nothing.

    It was just beautiful!!

    from

We too read all of the reviews and were very concerned about our stay in Acapulco. Although I think that reading all of the reviews really helped me with the "do's and don't's", I really worried for nothing.

    Best Vacation!

    from

The Grand Mayan was absolutely beautiful. We had a 9th floor oceanview room and the view was spectacular as was the clean room. The staff was very helpful and very courteous. The water park was great for kids and adults as well. We really enjoyed the lazy river. If you are staying at the Mayan Palace and looking for a cab driver, I highly recommend Charley. He took us around the whole week and took us on a tour of Acapulco. His english is very good and he is very personable. The front desk will have his info. If not, please feel free to email me at jill0515@msn.com and I will be happy to give you his email address or phone number.

I would highly recommend this resort to anyone. The timeshare presentation was a little lengthy but well worth the 15% discount.

    Very Nice Timeshare

    from

Having read several of the other reviews, I decided to write my opinion of the Mayan. It is true there are two Mayans, the Grand and the Mayan. The Grand is one of the nicest, cleanest and well equiped room I have ever stayed in. I found the entire staff friendly and very helpful. We did an RCI trade and are not owners at the Mayan, they did ask if we wanted a tour (aka: sales pitch) we declined and they never asked again.

Grand Mayan, Beautiful Resort, but not perfect

    from

We arrived at the Mayan Palace, agreed to the timeshare presentation, and were upgraded to the Grand Mayan. We were assigned a room on the 1st floor, the door to the balcony was open. That room was awful! It smelled strongly of mildew, the bed and sheets were damp & we asked for a mattress change. They changed the mattress, but it just got worse. We asked for a room change & expected management to come & check the room but they didn't.We saw mold growing on the pictures in the room! We were finally given a new room on Monday morning. They put us on the 3rd floor & that room was fine. There was a slight smell of mildew all week, but not unbearable. The rooms have beautiful fixtures:marble floors, granite counters, nice sinks. When in good repair, the rooms are great. We faced the street, oceanview rooms are for owners only. The timeshare presentation was booring and the salesman was agressive. It lasted about 2 hrs. The grounds of the resort are fabulous. The pool is large but part of it is closed for construction. The train is still not running. The restaurants are nice, but very little variety. Club sandwiches are good. Seafood dinners are great. The staff is very nice & will try to please you. Also, the beds are quite firm, I kind of liked them that way. Even though we had a bad experience to start with, I still will give the Mayan Palace/Grand Mayan an above average rating.Probably would not go back because I would rather be closer to the main part of Acapulco. If you go & have problems, advocate for yourself. I'm glad we didn't stay at the Mayan Palace, it is nowhere near the quality of the Grand Mayan. We also had fair tv reception, CNN international, Fox news,HBO,Cinemax & a few old tv shows like friends. I think that better tv reception is on the higher floors.

    Grand Mayan

    from

We went to the Grand Mayan with my husband's brother, his wife and my 17-year old niece and her friend! Although construction was evident, it was not really any type of noise issue for us! We did upgrade from the Mayan Palace to the Grand Mayan by agreeing to that 4 hour timeshare presentation- and for me the plunge pool on the balcony, and the spacious and tastefully decorated two-room suite and eventual 15% discount of food and beverages was worth it! But, a word of warning - do not attend your presentation with 'Johnny' unless you are prepared to be insuted and patronized by an extremely chauvanistic man from Canada! The club sandwiches at the pool were good (i know club sandwiches in mexico sound a little odd to rave about)and we enjoyed the 2-for-1 drink specials especially when served by the very friendly Marian poolside! We were referred to the cab driver known as 'Ismael Silva" by another at this site and trusted the referral- much to our dismay! Ismael lied to us and over charged us- even telling us a restaurant was closed when it was not to take us to his choice where it looked like a kickback was going down...Eventaully we had Henri (with blue and white cabs outside the front of hotel)drive us and were pleased with his demeanor and service.. ALso, have all your receipts ready when checking out the night before you leave and make sure that you do get your 15% off (if warranted)- this took us about 3 tries. Also we really enjoyed the relaxing pottery painting down at the beach- made reasonable souvenirs for everyone while looking at the ocean!

    Grand Mayan Resort (Mayan Palace)

    from

My wife and I just returned from Acapulco and we stayed at the Grand Mayan Resort, one of the best resorts we have ever stayed at. This resort has one of the largest swimming pools in Latin America, nice beachfront access, 4 restaurants and a golf course. We were originally booked at the Mayan Palace which is part of the same resort but we were upgraded to the Grand Mayan by signing up for a timeshare presentation, we also received a 15% discount on all food and activities booked at the resort, and received a free breakfust during the timeshare presentation. After reading some reviews about the timeshare presentation I was hesitant but I am sure glad we did this because the Grand Mayan is a much better place to stay it. Full kitchen, own private pool in each room, and just much nicer. The timeshare presentation will last about 3-4 hours not the 90 minutes as promised when you signup. Here are my thoughts about the presentation itself, we treated our sales rep courteously and professionally and he responded in the same fashion. We talked with another couple who were already staying at the Grand Mayan and wanted the 15% discount, they told the sales rep in the first minute that they were were not going to buy and just wanted the 15% discount. They said the rep and manager gave them a hard time, what do you expect ? Thats almost like stealing, your getting 15%. This is a job for these people, let them doing their presentation, ask questions, my wife and I took the opportunity to learn about the resort and ask about Acapulco in general and at the end we just stayed no. After saying no to the sales rep you are then turned over to the manager who then asks how you were treated etc and just say no again. The breakfast buffet is definitely worth it but it will run about $16.00 a day for one adult, you can buy a 7day discounted pass to the buffet and save money but here is the catch, they only sell these passes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I also recommend going to Walmart on the first day as others to get bottled water, drinks, and other snacks. Will cost about $10.00 roundtrip for a taxi. The bars on the resorts have 2 for1 drinks at different times between 3-6pm but the Water Park grill and bar has a special 2for1 drink each day which lasts the entire day. We ate at 3 local restaurants, our favorite was the Linda Vista restaurant, great view, make sure Margarito is working and order a Spanish coffee after dinner, then sit back and enjoy the show. We also ate at the LasBrisas Hotel restaurant food was ok, the view was absolutely incredible, definitely worth the trip here maybe just for drinks. The restaurant does not allow shorts but the bar does. These restaurants are approximately 15-20 mintues from the resort by taxi, we were very fortunate to meet our taxi driver Sebastian Hernandez on the second day after we arrived, he was our taxi driver all week, we even rented him one day, to take us all over Acalpulco to go to the market, shopping, cliff divers, visit the Cathedrals and Mexican fiesta. Sebastian spoke very good English, had very good rates, and the main thing had Air Conditioning that worked. Our first two cab rides, airport and Walmart, we rode in Cabs where the AC did not work. 90plus degrees with humidity ouch. Anyways, if you are interested in talking with Sebastian send me an email and I will send you his contact info since email addresses and phone numbers are not allowed in reviews. Also, if you have any questions about Acapulco send me an email.

    Great family resort

    from

My daughter and I spent eight days and seven nights at the Grand Mayan Resort from June 24, 2005 to July 1,2005 and it was one of the best trips we have taken so far.

Grand Mayan, a nice property yet slightly generic

    from

My husband and I traded his father's timeshare in Mazatlan for the Grand Mayan in Acapulco for our two- week honeymoon. As most people have said, the grounds and rooms are well-kept and the pools are beautiful.
