Historical Traveler Reviews of The Grand Hotel Scarborough
Travelled the world and have never stayed in such a hovel

Stayed in the Scarbourgh Grand, grand by name but what a hovel.
I reported this hotel to Health and Safety, and the Tourist Board.Obviously nothing has been done.
The entire building needs to be shut down, and the inside rebuilt.
The reception staff to have some lessons in manners
The cleaning staff lessons in cleaning
Stay here at your peril.
Hotel from hell

What an absolute dump the room was filthy and would not let my dog stay in there, we complained and asked for another room they said there were none availabe, thank god we only had to put up with it for 2 days, it needs completely refurbishing it may have been ok 70 years ago, how they can still call it the grand is beyond me, never again

Never stayed in a worse place

Last time I stayed in Scarborough I booked a room through tourist information, which was cheap and cheerful. Sounded a great idea to stay in the Grand Hotel the next time, and it was suitably expensive when I booked it.
I could not believe how grim the decor was on the way in, and lamented its long lost glory years.
The room was very sparse and cheaply furnished.
There was no telephone, air conditioning or fan
It was not very clean. In the bathroom there was no shampoo just two soap dispensers.
The breakfast was in shifts. It was not very good
In all it reminded me of Butlins budget accommodation before a refurb in the late 1990s, but it should have been better at £75 per room per night, particularly when you consider the value for money and quality of accommodation of say Travel Inn or Travellodge
The destruction of a grand hotel

We stayed at this hotel in the spring of 2004, such a majestic looking hotel, if you want to see a building falling into decline, even pushed, this is the place to go, it is worth seeing what the place could be, but if you love old buildings, it is very sad to the eyes indeed to see it fall and pushed into its decay. I am glad I saw a great building before it's final demise, but as a hotel - I am sorry, it requires a very wide berth, the coffee is cheap rate and horrid, the food is spartan, and it has all the charm only someone with poor taste could worship. Very sad indeed, and with a little love it could be the best hotel in Britain!!, listen up Butlins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Entertainment great

having just spent 6 days at the grand hotel, my wife and I both agree it was good value for the price, ok there was a couple of problems at first but the staff went out of there way to solve the blimps, first we thought the room was abit small so the reception staff were very helpful and changed it to abigger one, the room was great with a seaview what more could you ask for, they even gave us a electric fire when we said the room was a bit cool the first night, we only used it that one night ,the entertainment and food was verygood, h day
The GRAND Is GRIM

We entered the hotel and became aware immediately that we had made a huge mistake...it was smelly, smokey, dirty and totally unsuitable for us...with two young children! We decided to view the room but that was awful...the smoke from the reception area followed us up to the third floor and I was having trouble breathing, as an asthmatic it was obvious we couldn't stay. In the room the covers on the four beds were old and not particularly clean, the bathroom was shocking and the furniture very old. We left immediately, despite the fact it was 5.30pm with two hungry children...I would not risk eating in this hotel.

We booked into the hotel and we were asked to pay for the room straight away ,we then were taken to the room and taken down a passage where the roof had previously caved in and it was showing all the josts and the doors on either side of our room had no entry over them . The room was dark damp and disgusting we immediately asked for another room and that was pretty similar and while your there please look at the carpet its alive with slugs and bugs on the floor which can be more or said of the staff as they immediately gave us our money back less transaction charges with the debit card. the security man is the most unpleasent man imaginable as he then escorted us off the property .this hotel is the biggest dump imaginable and should be avoided ,the only hotel I would say this resembles is the Bates hotel in psycho! or a scene from a carry on film
Worst hotel ever

stayed a few months ago at grand hotel what a joke . the first room was terrible it was dirty it smelled we payed for a sea view the window was that dirty we couldnt see out of it,the doors were hanging off the furniture the window in the bathroom was held in place by masking tape.
in the bath there was still body hair from the previous guest as well as a ring mark.they couldnt move us from this room when we complained they said to find somewhere else how do you do that on a bank holiday weekend? the restaurant was the pitts if you happen to be the second sitting you ate on the dirty table cloth from the first sitting ie egg stains and god knows what . we left after the first night with 12 flea bites as a parting gift . save your money and find a clean bus shelter.
An eye opener

The room keys were issued to us but the room was stil the way the previous guests had left it. After complaining to the reception desk we were asked to come back after 2 hours. We did it was still the same.
They then said it would be ready in 5 minutes. All they di was change the sheets and towels. There was still pubic hairs in the bath.
DONT GO THERE
