From Cairns to Sydney

Today was another transfer day, this time flying down to my last Australia stop in Sydney. Turned into a rather good day though. Unusually for me I had asked for a window seat on the plane, and was on the left hand side of the plane. This gave me an amazing view of the barrier reef when leaving Cairns. Being higher in the air than I was on …

City and Beaches

Today I took a city tour, which reinforced to me that whilst Sydney has a lot of other stuff going on, there is one stand out attraction and that is the magnificent harbour. We went to a few view points where I got the day shots of the bridge and the Opera House and then went down to Bondi for the rest of the morning.

I'd …

Went up into the moutains to the west of Sydney. It was a good day, but like Kakadu possibly suffered from what had come before. I imagine it was a bit like having a day in the North Downs having spent time in the Lake District or the Scottish Highlands (neither of which I've been to). Nice, but you've seen something more spectacular in the …

Four Seasons (and a BridgeClimb) in One Day

Woke up to the news that all Flights into Sydney and even the ferries had been cancelled due to fog and the weather update in the hotel warned of very high winds. Neither good on a day that your supposed to climb to the top of the Harbour Bridge.
Fortunately, by 9:30 when my climb was due to start it was much clearer and by the time we …

    Elegance and service

    from anonymous

Beautiful art-deco feel to this hotel that goes 100% to give the personal touch.

A great place to go if you want to avoid a 'chain-hotel'.

    Go to the Grace

    from buzzard

The Grace is one of those hotels that feel good the moment you walk through the doors. It is a 5 minute walk from Darling Harbour, 1 block from shops whichever way you walk and the staff are very helpful. We found the 4 different restaurants attached to the hotel sufficient to prevent us from straying very far when food was required. Really recommend Paddy O'Briens if you like the old style British pub, food was good too, you really have to try the kangaroo it was cooked to perfection. With its own pay launderette staying a week without having to take too many clothes was great - more room for shopping in the bags!!

    Excellent service!

    from anonymous

Spent the entire weekend at the Grace in March 2004 and loved it! HUGE room which was also very quiet and the service was amazing - they kept my luggage for me overnight while I went out of town for 2 days. Excellent location for doing shopping as well.

    Grace is great

    from anonymous

Probably one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in, in the world. Fantastic room, excellent location as it is a short walk to all the sights. However telephone calls home are VERY expensive.

    Give this a miss

    from NigelHa

Whilst the Grace Hotel is OK as regards facilities etc. the Reception Staff stink. Particularly the manager in charge on the morning of 15th Feb 2004.

I have never encountered such a bunch of jobsworths who were also rude and smarmy. The whole lot of them should be given the sack.

The other staff at the hotel were fine and could teach them a lesson.

    Great Hotel

    from anonymous

Great beds, great service, great location. Excellent value, and central to everything in downtown Sydney.

    A Great Place To Stay

    from anonymous

A lovely hotel with excellent well equipped rooms, helpful staff, a convenient downtown location and fabulous breakfasts. A great place to see the city from.

    Great rooms

    from anonymous

Great rooms, but the Deli Cafe is expensive and the food isn't all that good, quite greasy.

Grace Hotel very nice but expensive

    from anonymous

The hotel was very very nice. The rooms were great. The pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room were very nice as well. Everything was great. I would rather stay in someplace a little less expensive however and have a few less amenities. We were booked here by a travel agent and if I did it again, I would save a little money and stay elsewhere. The location was hard to beat, however. A 10 minute walk to the Darling Harbor aquarium.

    Staying with grandma

    from anonymous

The grace is a grand old lady who has recently been given a new lease of life through refurbishment. The old means that the rooms are spacious with high ceilings and big windows and the refurbishment means bringing out all the old Art Deco in the public areas and putting in great big modern bathrooms.Breakfast might not be anything special and the tour groups might hang around the public areas a bit, but the Grace is bang in the centre of the shopping area, next to the CBD and within walking distance of that heavenly harbour.

Sometimes staying with grandma can be quite fun.
